About the role Mater Hospital Brisbane is currently seeking applications for Clinical Nurses to join Ward 9B Acute / Subacute Geriatric and Acute Gastroenterology Ward. This is a permanent full-time position.
Ward 9B is a combination of Subacute (Rehabilitation and GEM - Geriatric Evaluation and Management) and Non-Acute (Nursing Home Type Patients) patients and Gastroenterology patients as a subspecialty to complete a 26-bed ward. 6 beds are allocated to Gastroenterology and the remaining are Acute and Subacute Geriatric patients.
The 9B Nursing team works closely with the Geriatric Medical Team including a full-time Geriatrician and specialized Allied Health Team focusing on restoration of physical and cognitive functioning or prevention of further functional decline with a view to determining discharge destination and improved outcomes for older people.
The Gastroenterology Subspecialty will provide care for patients with conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract/system such as:
Inflammatory bowel disease e.g. Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitisLiver problems - hepatitis, liver cirrhosisMalignancy and benign tumors of the gut – like stomach and bowel cancerInvestigations of bleeding, colonoscopy, endoscopyAbility to work a rotating roster including mornings, afternoons, nights, and weekends is required for this position. You will provide restorative and rehabilitation-focused services and care to the community following a medical hospitalization. Whilst displaying the highest level of clinical standards for the unit you will be responsible for:
Achieving optimal patient outcomes throughout the patient journey and the continuum of careMaintaining current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth.Supporting the Nurse Unit Manager in implementing strategies to ensure that quality and risk management are integrated into service provision.Providing specialty-specific support and resources to patients and staffA commitment to the continuous improvement of health care and nursing practiceLiaising with the Multidisciplinary Teams between specialties and subspecialties to ensure consistent patient outcomes.About you To be successful in your application, you will have:
Previous Gastroenterology Nursing experience will be highly regardedMinimum 5 years acute care experience required for this positionLeadership and team leader experience highly regardedCurrent AHPRA nursing registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of different stakeholders both internally and externally at various levelsDemonstrated ability to operate both in a team environment and autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, and strong listening, negotiation, and decision-making skills.Demonstrated ability to plan and facilitate management and workloads.Strong knowledge of continuous improvement processes, coupled with the proven ability to initiate, coordinate, and evaluate quality improvement measures.A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to role model and promote the Mater Values.Mater is Queensland's largest and most innovative not-for-profit healthcare service, providing care for almost 700,000 patients a year across a network of 11 hospitals.
