We are seeking an enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Specialist experienced in Mental Health to work within our team in the unique Wheatbelt Region of Western Australia! About the OPPORTUNITY: Full Time Fixed Term appointment to the 3/06/2025 with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency Responsible for providing a timely and specialised Clinical Mental Health Liaison Consultancy service to all Wheatbelt Hospitals. The prime purpose of this position is to conduct primary mental health assessments of all patients presenting to the Wheatbelt Emergency Departments or who are admitted onto general wards and who may be considered requiring specialised mental health assessments. Priorities include consultation services to clinicians providing assistance and information to consumer and carers. Is a liaison and link with relevant others in Wheatbelt Health Services, Community Mental Health Services, Alcohol and Other Drugs services and Mental Health Emergency Telehealth Services.
Key responsibilities include:
Undertakes comprehensive mental health and risk assessments (hospital based with some community follow up where appropriate) in accordance with recognised principles of professional practice, for children, youth, adults and seniors. Provides specialist mental health knowledge and advanced mental health nursing skills and care consistent with contemporary practice with the Wheatbelt region. Manage complex mental health situations and provide support and direction to Clinical Nurses, Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Hospital Doctors within the Emergency Departments and the Wards. Demonstrated workplace leadership experience relevant to hospital-based mental health practice. Demonstrated advanced skills in the assessment and nursing management of complex psychiatric presentations, risk assessment, crisis intervention and management of aggression in a clinical setting and providing evidence-based interventions for people with mental disorders. Demonstrated advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated advance knowledge of the Mental Health Act of WA. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary environment. A working knowledge of computers and information systems relevant to the position/role including the use of video conferencing options.
