Chronic Kidney disease (CKD) and End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) incidence within the Aboriginal population of the Kimberley greatly exceeds the national burden of disease. Dialysis prevalence for this region has more than tripled in the last decade and is increasing at a much faster rate than in the rest of Western Australia (WA).KRS  and the regional  Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS)  have developed a renal strategic plan to help combat this health crisis. This has enabled many patients to return to the Kimberley from Perth, which is 2,500kms away, to receive their treatment.Living in the Kimberley Region The Kimberley region is one of the oldest settled areas within Australia rich in culture and heritage, with first arrivals landing about 41,000 years ago. With some of the most diverse and breathtaking landscapes in the world, the Kimberley truly is a must-see destination. boasting stunning rivers and incredible national parks - you'll never run out of places to explore.Located in the northern part of Western Australia, The Kimberley has three towns - Broome, Derby and Kununurra - with a total population of approximately 37,000. In addition to the sealed Route 1 which runs along the southern part of the area, the unsealed Gibb River Road runs through the heart of the region from Derby to the highway near Kununurra. Access to much of the region is by dirt road, air or sea.About the Opportunity The  Kimberley Renal Service  has an opportunity for a  Clinical Nurse Specialist  to join their multidisciplinary team based in Kununurra, WA. This role will be offered on a full-time, ongoing basis.The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is the professional clinical lead within the Renal Health Centre and is responsible, alongside the Renal Services Manager, to ensure that professional standards, codes and behaviours that are legislated through Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and KRS policies are up-held.The CNS position is a clinical leadership role responsible for; clinical outcomes and ensuring service provision is met by providing a holistic approach to renal health care patients.The CNS in collaboration with the Renal Services Manager provides management and supervision of the clinical team and ensures professional development needs of all staff are met.The CNS contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of quality standards of renal practice, policies, procedures and guidelines.Some of your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):Works regular clinical shifts and provides leave cover as required.Completes staff rosters for each shift on the basis of accreditation requirements, workload prioritisation and staff level of experience.Ensure a high quality approach to care is provided, that promotes maximum independence and optimises quality of life for the dialysis patientWork with the Renal Services Manager and clinical nurses to assist staff in maintaining optimal health outcomes of their primary care patients, including assessment of monthly bloods, review sheets, patient education, and primary health care follow-up, access assessment according to unit policies and procedures and key performance indicators.Work with the Renal Services Managers, KAMS Quality Coordinator, Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator, OSH Coordinator to develop, maintain and contribute Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), OSH and infection control practices within the centre's in accordance with accreditation requirementsLiaises with Royal Perth Hospital regarding the transfer of current hemodialysis patients to and from the Kimberley and communicate this information to the Renal Services Manager and relevant shift coordinators.About You To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced  Registered Nurse with demonstrated experience in the provision of Renal Health Care.  You will also need to be eligible for national registration with AHPRA.Your advanced renal clinical skills, knowledge, experience, and the ability to deliver clinical instruction/educational programs will be key to your success in this role.
