About Your Role The primary purpose of the Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 – Violence, Abuse and Neglect (CNS – VAN) role is to provide medical and forensic responses and health care (within scope of practice) to people who have experienced violence, abuse and neglect. This includes providing integrated crisis responses, non-acute clinical care, case coordination, follow-up medical care, and health care navigation.
The CNS – VAN will either be qualified as or eligible to become a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. They will:
be registered as a nurse with the Nurses and Midwifery Board have a minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience in a relevant clinical specialty such as sexual health or women's health. have obtained, be working towards, or be enrolled within 6 months of commencing the role, the Education Centre Against Violence (ECAV) Graduate Certificate in Medical and Forensic Management of Adult Sexual Assault (or equivalent). The CNS will be required to participate in the 24/7 on-call roster, regular team meetings, quality improvement activities, administrative tasks, and research and education delivery as appropriate. The CNS will work in partnership with Priority Population's Program colleagues, other NSW Health staff, NSW Police, and the judicial system to ensure the provision of culturally safe, integrated health care, forensic documentation, and evidence collection for patients who have experienced VAN.
