Climate Data Analyst

The New markets function is focused on developing business opportunities within new sectors; notably Banking, Asset Management and Green Tech. Our aim is to help these industries to better understand, measure and manage the current and future physical climate risk exposure within their portfolios.You will report to the Manager, Climate Analytics.Your RoleInterpret and present analysis (via presentation or written reports) that make complex data accessible and relevant to clients of all technical skill levels.Analyse data results and support clients in understanding how to apply these insights to their climate risk management strategies.Assist in developing new data and analytics products, continuously exploring ways to offer greater value to clients.Perform event response analytics following the occurrence of natural catastrophe events.Identify what data, both internally and externally, is available and relevant, as well as leveraging new data collection processes.Collaborate with industry and subject matter experts to investigate relevant sources of natural peril and climate risk information.Build relationships with business units, IT and other analytics units globally and be a contributor to the Munich Re analytics community.Attend fortnightly and ad hoc calls with global colleagues predominantly based in the US and Europe.Your ProfileTertiary level education in STEM field such as Environment Science, Climate Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Physics.3 years+ of commercial experience in climate risk analytics, natural hazard assessment, or a related field.Ability to query data with Python and familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Databricks, AWS).Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI is beneficial.Scenario analysis and stress testing experience would be advantageous.Ability to analyse and interpret complex climate data and apply it to real-world scenarios.Creative problem-solving abilities, with a focus on both immediate solutions and long-term impacts.Ability to engage with clients, understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.Banking, Asset Management or start-up experience would be highly regarded.At Munich Re, we embrace, and value, the interaction of diverse backgrounds, experience, perspectives and thought.
