Who we're looking for? As the Clerk Assistant (Procedure), you'll put your leadership, administrative and multi-tasking skills to good use in this varied and rewarding environment. You'll be happy to work autonomously within Parliament, while leading your team to support the Legislative Assembly.
As Clerk Assistant (Procedure), you will see Western Australia's Parliament up close. You will manage and support the Assembly's Chamber Operations and give advice to staff and members on parliamentary law, practice and procedure. You will also work on the floor of the Assembly, providing advice and support to the Speaker, ministers and members of the Legislative Assembly. 
Our ideal candidate will have the ability to think on their feet, write appropriately to a wide range of audiences, analyse and think about issues, and have excellent communication skills. 
About the job There are two positions of Clerk Assistant in the Legislative Assembly: Clerk Assistant (Procedure) and Clerk Assistant (Committees), which rotate periodically. The Clerk Assistants are responsible for the management of two principal areas within the Department: Chamber Operations and Committee Operations and support members from all sides of politics. 
Working in a parliamentary environment can be challenging, and successful applicants should expect major peaks and troughs in workload based in part on the parliamentary sitting calendar. Work outside of normal hours will be required, including evenings when Parliament is sitting. In return, you will be offered daily exposure to the Parliament and given a degree of autonomy and independence unique in the public sector.
