Our client, located in the Camden Council region, is a vertically integrated business that manufactures its own premium skincare products and high-end brands that are marketed both locally in Australia and Internationally.
The Role:
Reporting directly to the CEO and CFO The Head of Manufacturing plays a critical role in overseeing the end-to-end manufacturing process, including sourcing raw materials and packaging, logistics and transportation (both inbound and outbound), warehousing, and skincare production and quality control. You will be responsible for leading the Manufacturing facility team and coordinating with resources at head office (Located in Sydney) to achieve operational excellence, aligning with the Business Plan, and fostering a high-performing organisational culture.
You will have direct reports including Production Manager, Shift Managers, Warehouse Manager, Laboratory Manager and Quality Assurance Managers.
You will manage a single shift operation (8:30am - 4:30pm) consisting of 4 main production lines, 2 X packaging lines, automated and semi-automated machinery and a production team of 15 staff.
Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership Manage overall manufacturing operations to achieve high quality output at optimal cost Review end-to-end processes and recommend a manufacturing strategy Provide operational and strategic updates to the Board Create role clarity for supply chain, logistics and manufacturing roles within the organisation
Manufacturing Operations and Process Improvement Lead initiatives to enhance production capabilities, quality standards, and cost efficiency Design and implement plans for the optimal use of materials and labour to satisfy production growth targets Oversee the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Oversee the procurement of raw materials and equipment, ensuring effective inventory management Monitor production processes and adjust operations as needed Team Leadership Directly supervise the laboratory team Manage staff recruitment, orientation, performance, and succession planning Develop leadership capacity to meet future business needs Foster high team morale and promote a positive workplace culture Lead change management initiatives when implementing new systems and processes Stakeholder Collaboration Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to enhance product marketability Maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including 3rd party clients Safety, Compliance, and Maintenance Schedule and oversee the maintenance of production equipment and machinery Ensure compliance with operating policies, safety measures, and all regulatory and certification standards GMP audit oversight and ensure compliance with accreditations and regulatory requirements Responsibility for QA and QC To be successful in this role: You will be a strategic leader with a focus on leading by example through supporting, mentoring, coaching and developing your team. You will have excellent experience of both QA and QC and working closely and alongside laboratory teams in creating solutions for new and existing customers Change Management and Continuous improvement will be natural traits and passions of yours You will have an excellent industry network and the ability to develop new client relationships as well as maintain and grow current the client base. Your experience will align with the below: Proven experience in manufacturing leadership roles, within the skincare, cosmetics, or pharmaceuticals industry Bachelor of Business/Engineering or relevant Science Degree is highly desirable. 5+ years' experience as a senior manager 10+ years in a Chemical, Pharma or FMCG manufacturing environment Experience in industrial automation role will be highly regarded Proven experience in Continuous Improvement methodologies Safety leadership, workplace culture, management of major emergencies and emergency preparedness are essential Previous experience in a leadership role in a MHF (major hazard facility) will be highly regarded Proficient in process safety concepts, safety science (e.g. New View, Safety II, HRO, HOP) hazard awareness and safety management systems Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Track record of cultivating high performing teams through empowerment
