THE ABRA PROJECT An opportunity has emerged for an Executive General Manager to help guide Abra Mining Pty Ltd (Administrators Appointed) through its next phase of growth and excellence. This is a pivotal role which involves overseeing all aspects of the mine's operations and support functions. You will champion site culture, ensuring a safety first mindset, drive operational efficiency, ensuring performance is as planned and within budget, and build bench strength by developing talent. This is a full time, predominately site-based role with occasional work in Head Office (Perth) and promoting the business domestically.
Abra is located approximately 220km north of Meekatharra, in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. The mine represents one of the world's cleanest and largest lead-silver projects, targeting production 90 – 100ktpa lead and 600 – 800kozs silver per year.
The Abra Mineral Resource consists of multiple mineralised zones predominately consisting of an upper over-laying sediment bound Apron zone that sits above an underlying hydrothermal feeder system called the Core zone. The most recent LOM reserve based on the MRE2023 contains 16.3Mt @ 6.9% Pb indicating a mine life of 10+ years.
The Abra Mine construction and commissioning was completed in late 2022 and production ramp up took place during 2023, the mine has now reached steady state production volumes.
The underground ore mined is processed through a flotation processing plant, to produce a high-grade lead-silver concentrate that is trucked to port before being exported to off takers in Japan, Korea, Australia and China.
THE ROLE Reporting directly to the CEO, as Executive General Manager , you will hold the overarching responsibility to provide strategic direction and leadership across the Abra operation. The key responsibilities for the Executive General Manager will include:
Enhancing staff engagement by role modelling values-based leadership, visibly communicating performance and priorities, implementing initiatives to boost morale, motivation, and commitment. Perform the statutory positions of Site Senior Executive and if required Underground Manager. Leading, mentoring, and developing department managers, superintendents and supervisors to achieve high levels of performance. Collaborating with the head office to assist executing the company's long-term strategy and growth plans. Oversee the Budget and Life of Mine process including MRE and Reserve updates, along with cut off grade assessments and strategic planning. Implement cost-cutting strategies identifying and eliminating financial inefficiencies within the organisation. Ensure departmental contract development and management. Achieving accurate financial forecasts and conducting monthly reviews comparing forecasts to actual accruals to assess accuracy and identify any discrepancies. Primary point of contact with First nations, Shire of Meekatharra, DEMIRS and Landholders. In addition, the General Manager will be responsible for: Liaising with all stakeholders to achieve the schedule and budget forecasts. Actively promoting safety, wellbeing, the vision and values and demonstrating personal commitment. Statutory management of the mine as prescribed in the WA Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations, including regular inspections of the mine. Analysis and reporting on the site's operational performance. Driving continuous improvement initiatives across safety, workforce planning, processing, underground processes, reporting, and contractor management. ABOUT YOU Abra is searching for a candidate with a strategic focus and exceptional leadership skills. We additionally require the successful candidate to have:
10+ yrs experience within the resources or similar industries, preferably underground hard rock. 5+ yrs leadership experience. Tertiary Qualification in Relevant Mining Related Discipline. Possessing sufficient qualifications and experience to satisfy the requirements for appointment as Site Senior Executive under the WHS Act and WHS Mines regulation. Previous experience in Budget, LOM and strategic planning. Strong communication skills with the ability to inspire and align teams with organisational goals and objectives. A focus on continuous improvement being results-driven and performance-oriented. Current "C" Class Western Australian driver's license. Your current and past reports would describe you as an inspiring and motivating leader who fosters close working relationships with employees and contractors.
