WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
As the Assistant Accountant, you will support in maintaining the financial system including general ledger maintenance, updates, balancing, reconciling and control processes.
You will:
assist in the preparation of various compliance returns and external reporting requests (e.g. GST, FBT, payroll tax, TPAR, PTR, senate QoNs) including reconciliation to the general ledger process monthly accrual, prepayment, provision and other adjusting journal entries prepare monthly reconciliations support the accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions process and maintain the fixed assets register in accordance with asset capitalisation procedures assist with end of financial year processes, including the preparation of annual financial statements and external audit process contribute to the development, improvement and implementation of accounting, taxation and financial management procedures and templates provide input on finance-related projects such as improvements to internal reporting or changes to software packages used improve existing practices and processes, by identifying improvement opportunities, generate ideas and implement solutions. This is a permanent role based in Newcastle.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
To be successful in the role of Assistant Accountant, you will have previous experience in an accounts or assistant accountant role with exposure to monthly close procedures, the preparation of reconciliations and taxation compliance returns. You will be highly motivated with a passion for accuracy and process improvement.
Your background will demonstrate your:
proficiency with accounting and financial systems strong Excel skills with high attention to detail capability to develop and review processes for improvement ability to verify information for accuracy and relevance effective communication skills across all levels analytical and problem-solving skills and initiative to question and interrogate data ability to work with limited direction under broad guidelines, both independently and co-operatively in a team environment excellent organisational skills and the ability to work within tight timeframes ability to work in a changing and dynamic work environment. You will have tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business or a related discipline, at least at a certificate level.
