Location ProfileThe Benalla Flexible Learning Centre has a student population of approximately 80 students ranging from Year 7 - 12. Benalla FLC believes that every student has a right to an education and that all students can achieve their goals and provide educational opportunities for young people who have disengaged from mainstream education. We believe that for students to be able to achieve success in achieving their goals we need to foster student individual interests, encouraging their active participation in the learning process, and develop the ability to apply knowledge and skills to life experiences and the challenges that life brings.
Benalla Flexible Learning Centre is a part of the North East Flexible Learning Network, which has four campuses throughout North East Victoria including Shepparton, Benalla and Seymour with over 400 students enrolled across the four campuses. We are looking for a teacher who can easily adapt to an ever-changing environment, be flexible in their teaching and learning practice and can positively respond to the challenges of an alternative approach to meeting student needs. We are looking for an educator with a passion for teaching and strengths in teamwork, fairness and positivity.
The students that attend the North East Flexible Learning Network have a number of influencing factors including but not limited to:
Long term disengagement from education.Low level Literacy and Numeracy skills.Low learning confidence.Low level personal and social skills.Diagnosed and undiagnosed disabilities.Traumatic experiences in their past and/or present.Rural and remote students who need to travel a significant distance to attend school.Significant periods of home schooling.Out of home care.These factors have a significant impact on the way in which our students learn. Our school therefore has a flexible approach to teaching and a unique way of working with young people and their families/carers that does not align with mainstream education. If you are not truly passionate about working with disengaged youth and having the students at the centre of every decision that you make, our school and this job are not for you.
The school assesses against the Victorian Curriculum and offers VCE-VM and VPC options to our senior students. Every student has an Individual Education plan which is created and updated termly with the student, their families/carers, support teams and Learning Mentor.
The school's focus is on building strong, professional relationships with students to encourage confidence and a safe space for optimal learning to take place and for our young people to achieve their goals. Deep understanding and the ability to model appropriate boundaries when working with students, their families, and other staff is essential.

Selection CriteriaSC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Demonstrated experience in responding to student learning needs.
SC2 Demonstrated experience in planning for and implementing high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.
SC3 Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning. Demonstrated experience in using data to inform teaching practice and providing feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement.
SC5 Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values. Demonstrated experience in reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to continually improve the quality of teaching.
RoleThe classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2. The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry in order to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and improve their learning.
As the classroom teacher gains experience his or her contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. All classroom teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.
ResponsibilitiesThe role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:
Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school;Undertaking other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal;Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings; staff meetings; camps and excursions;Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties.Who May ApplyTeachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
