Cann River P-12 College is situated in Cann River, a small community on the Princes Highway, 440 kilometres east of Melbourne in the extensive forests of East Gippsland.
The College program aims to develop young students as happy, tolerant and supportive individuals, preparing them for further education and work in the broader world.
The school functioned effectively as a Neighbourhood Safer Place during the bushfires in late 2019, and has since undergone significant refurbishments.
The College facilities include Science and Art rooms, a Design and Technology workshop, a Food Technology kitchen, and a Vocational Education and Training (VET) Automotive workshop.
The school has netbooks for every student, and the curriculum aligns with the Victorian Curriculum.
Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills.
Experience in responding to student learning needs.
SC2 Experience in planning for and implementing high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student growth.
SC3 Experience in monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform teaching practice and providing feedback on student growth to students and parents.
SC4 Interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community.
SC5 Behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values, with experience in reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning.
Role The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2.
The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on planning, preparation, and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
Range 2 classroom teachers contribute to the school program beyond the classroom and assist in improving student performance and educational outcomes.
They will be expected to:
Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students. Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers. Provide expert advice about content, processes, and strategies for professional learning. Supervise and train student teachers. Assist staff in using student data to inform teaching approaches. Range 1 classroom teachers focus on developing skills to become effective practitioners with structured support and guidance, teaching a range of students/classes.
Responsibilities The role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:
Direct teaching of groups and individual students. Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum areas. Participating in parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions. Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties. Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach in the specified curriculum areas.
