Laburnum P.S. is a child safe school and all staff are expected to ensure a child safe environment. The selection process will involve a rigorous background check and staff are required to have current registration/s, which may include VIT, WWCC and/or Police Check. The current enrolment is 680, organised into 30 classes, with a mix of experienced and newer teachers. The backgrounds of students reflect the cultural and social diversity of the local community.

Laburnum P.S. has developed rigorous expectations and support structures to provide high-quality teaching and learning practices. The school is currently implementing the School-wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS) framework.
The school's curriculum framework incorporates the Victorian Curriculum, with a strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. Specialist programs include Music, Visual Arts, Physical Education, and Languages (Spanish).
Selection CriteriaSC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills.
SC2 Demonstrated experience in planning for and implementing high impact teaching strategies.
SC3 Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning.
SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
SC5 Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values.
RoleThe classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2. The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
ResponsibilitiesThe role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:
Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;Contributing to the development and evaluation of a curriculum area;Participating in parent/teacher meetings; staff meetings; camps and excursions;Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties.Who May ApplyTeachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
