RoleThe classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2.
The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry in order to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and improve their learning.
As the classroom teacher gains experience his or her contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases.
All classroom teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.
Classroom Teacher Range 2Range 2 classroom teachers play a significant role in assisting the school to improve student performance and educational outcomes determined by the school strategic plan and state-wide priorities and contributing to the development and implementation of school policies and priorities.
A critical component of this work will focus on increasing the knowledge base of staff within their school about student learning and high-quality instruction to assist their school to define quality teacher practice.
Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all studentsModel exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers in the school to engage in critical reflection of their practice and to support staff to expand their capacityProvide expert advice about the content, processes and strategies that will shape individual and school professional learningSupervise and train one or more student teachersAssist staff to use student data to inform teaching approaches that enable targets related to improving student learning outcomes to be achieved.Classroom Teacher Range 1The primary focus of the range 1 classroom teacher is on further developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support and guidance from teachers at higher levels and the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
These teachers teach a range of students/classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs.
Range 1 classroom teachers are skilled teachers who operate under general direction within clear guidelines following established work practices and documented priorities and may have responsibility for the supervision and training of one or more student teachers.
At range 1, teachers participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in the implementation of school priorities.
The focus of a range 1 classroom teacher is on classroom management, subject content and teaching practice.
New entrants to the teaching profession in their initial teaching years receive structured support, mentoring and guidance from teachers at higher levels.
ResponsibilitiesThe role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:
Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school;Undertaking other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal;Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings; staff meetings; camps and excursions;Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties.Who May ApplyTeachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

Situated on 3 acres, our school provides a wonderful atmosphere and space for our students to develop their academic and creative talents.
We are an inclusive school with just over 100 students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, including international enrolments.
Our school follows the Science of Learning principles, and explicit resources such as Little Learners Love Literacy, Spelling Mastery and the Orton Gillingham Approach are used to complement high quality teaching practices.
Core lessons are delivered utilizing a direct instruction approach, complemented by differentiated activities for students to independently practice their skills.
Teachers work in junior and senior school teams to collaboratively plan, for collegial support and to develop the slides utilized in literacy and numeracy sessions.
To further achieve Literacy and Numeracy goals for our students, teachers at CSPS are committed to meet on a weekly basis as a Professional Learning Community (PLC), to assess and analyze student performance data, and to plan for precise and personalized teaching in the classroom, and a subsequent weekly professional learning meeting.
Clayton South Primary School has a strong emphasis on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students, with all planning and programs based on the Victorian Curriculum.
Teachers also deliver Science, Respectful Relationships, Library and Humanities lessons, with specialist teachers delivering PE, Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Spanish lessons each week.
A wide variety of programs are offered to extend and enrich student learning including camps, swimming, PMP, kitchen/garden, sporting activities, Minecraft Club, Art club, Lunchtime Library access and breakfast club.
Teachers at our school are excited about education and are constantly learning and growing.
Our school shows children a caring community by working together and supporting and respecting one another.
There is a strong sense of community at Clayton South Primary School.
Our school is well supported by our families and the wider community, with our Parent Opinion Survey and Student Attitudes to School Survey results always demonstrating a great overall satisfaction with our school.
Being a small school, it is critical for our staff to work as a collaborative team in conjunction with our families and the wider community.
We are excited by the current election promise of a $12.45 million upgrade of our main school building.
We are in the first stages of this process, appointing architects which will lead us into the design phase.
Adaptability from staff will be required, as workspaces may need to be shifted in the next 12 months to allow the works to take place.
