Location Profile Melton South Primary School (MSPS) was established in 1923 and is situated in the Shire of Melton approximately 35km west of Melbourne. The school caters for a well-established residential neighbourhood.
In 2024 there are 949 students enrolled with 1 Principal, 3 Assistant Principals, 2 Teaching and Learning Coaches, 65 Generalist Teachers, 1 Literacy Intervention teacher, Tutors, 33 Educational Support staff, 1 Student Counsellor, 1 Social worker and 2 Speech Pathologists.
AT MSPS we administer, collate and analyse student data to inform teaching and learning as well as Intervention programs. We use High Impact Teaching Strategies including setting goals, structured lessons, explicit teaching, collaborative learning, multiple exposures with an ongoing focus on differentiated teaching supported by an external consultant.
The school offers a range of well-resourced specialist subjects including French, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics), Visual Arts, ICT (Information Communication Technology) and Physical Education.

Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills.
SC2 Demonstrated experience in planning for and implementing high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.
SC3 Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning. Demonstrated experience in using data to inform teaching practice and providing feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community.
SC5 Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values. Demonstrated experience in reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to continually improve the quality of teaching.
Role The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry in order to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and improve their learning.
As the classroom teacher gains experience, their contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. All classroom teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.
Responsibilities The principal is accountable for the overall management and development of the school within statewide guidelines and Government policies. The core accountabilities of all principals are to:
ensure the delivery of a comprehensive education program to all students be executive officer of the school council. establish and manage financial systems in accordance with the Department and school council requirements. represent the Department in the school and the local community. implement decisions of the school council. contribute to system-wide activities, including policy and strategic planning and development. manage and integrate the resources available to the school. appropriately involve staff, students and the community in the development, implementation and review of school policies, programs and operations. report to the Department, school community, parents and students on the achievements of the school and of individual students as appropriate. Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
