Koo Wee Rup Secondary College (KWRSC) is a medium-sized co-educational public school situated in the high-growth corridor of the Southeastern suburbs. It has easy access to Phillip Island, Mornington Peninsula, and the Melbourne CBD.
Koo Wee Rup Secondary College is experiencing an exciting transformation with a new Principal appointed in Term 4 of 2023, and a high-performing and supportive Leadership Team confirmed for 2025.
Current enrolment sits at around 940 students, with many students travelling by bus to attend the college. Our staffing profile includes the Principal, 4.6 Assistant Principals, 7 Leading Teachers, 11.2 Learning Specialists, 86 Teachers, and 40 Education Support Staff. Curriculum offerings in Years 7, 8, and 9 consist of core components covering key Learning Areas, with elective offerings in Years 9 and 10. Students can also study VCE subjects as part of their Year 10 studies, and in Years 11 and 12, we offer comprehensive programs allowing engagement in the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM), and Vocational Education and Training (VET).
KWRSC has a wide range of extracurricular activities, including Instrumental Music, Musical Productions, Festivals, excursions, competitions, sports programs, and camps, as approved by the School Council.
Selection CriteriaSC1: Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Experience in responding to student learning needs.
SC2: Experience in planning for and implementing high impact teaching strategies, evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.
SC3: Experience in monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform teaching practice and providing feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
SC4: Interpersonal and communication skills, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, wellbeing, and engagement.
SC5: Behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values, reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to continually improve the quality of teaching.
RoleThe classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges: range 1 and range 2. The primary focus is on planning, preparation, and teaching programs to achieve specific student outcomes. Classroom teachers engage in critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills effectively.
Range 2 classroom teachers play a significant role in assisting the school to improve student performance and educational outcomes determined by the school strategic plan and state-wide priorities.
Range 2 classroom teachers will be expected to:
Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students.Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers.Provide expert advice about content, processes, and strategies for individual and school professional learning.Supervise and train one or more student teachers.Assist staff in using student data to inform teaching approaches.Range 1 classroom teachers focus on developing skills and competencies to become effective classroom practitioners, planning, preparing, and teaching programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
ResponsibilitiesThe role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:
Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school;Undertaking other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal;Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions;Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties.Who May ApplyTeachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
