As a lawyer, you will prepare cases, advocate for your clients and provide advice about civil law matters.
You will have the chance to expand on your experience by undertaking interesting and varied casework in a wide range of civil law matters.
The role also gives you the opportunity to contribute to improvements to legal aid and the justice system.
The work is challenging and complex, but rewarding.The successful candidate will play an integral role in the following:Represent clients in civil law cases, including preparing matters, instructing counsel and personally appearing in various courts, tribunals and commissions, and at mediation and conciliation conferences.Provide legal advice, minor assistance and information to clients around the state by phone, videoconference and face-to-face in civil law matters.
Minor assistance includes preparing letters, documents, applications, complaints and submissions.Support Legal Aid Queensland's contributions to policy, procedure, law reform and legal service delivery initiatives.Support and guide team members and other Legal Aid Queensland staff with enquiries related to civil law.Support the development of innovative advice and case management practices, legal advice and information guides, casework and advice precedents and area of law webpages, filters and factsheets.You will have:Experience in, or the capability to learn, at least one of the areas of civil practice - Consumer Protection, Administrative Appeals, Commonwealth benefits and Social Security Appeals, National Disability Insurance Scheme Appeals, Employment Law, Anti-Discrimination and Inquests.The capacity and willingness to represent clients at conciliation, tribunals, commissions and courts and provide legal advice.The capacity and willingness to learn new areas of legal practice.
