ABOUT THE JOB This exciting new Apprenticeship opportunity is a two-year program, where we will support you to complete a Certificate III in Civil Construction. As the Civil Construction Apprentice, you will learn how to operate a range of tools, equipment and small and heavy machinery such as rollers, excavators, dump trucks and other plant and equipment whilst having exposure to a variety of general manual labour activities. You will assist the civil works team to construct and maintain roads, footpaths, cycleways and learn a range of practical skills including pipe laying, concrete works, installation of roadside furniture and roadside maintenance. Training will be provided both on-the-job and classroom based at Council's Works Depot.
There are 10 Civil Construction Apprenticeship positions on offer including positions for females only and for people who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Applicants of all demographics are welcome to apply. In this role, we will support you to:
Develop knowledge in general concreting works including installation of formwork, fixing of reinforcement, placement and finishing concrete.Analyse plans and assist with interpreting work plans, worksite quantity calculations and survey work.Assist with traffic control around worksites including placement of signs, lights and barriers.Communicate with customers and positively represent the council through courteous, responsive and efficient service.Undertake works in accordance with all relevant quality, environmental and WHS requirements.The position is located at Council's Works Depot, Boolaroo, and involves travel to multiple areas within Lake Macquarie. You will be rostered to work between 6:30am and 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, and occasionally on weekends work with notice.
Receive a wage whilst studying towards a qualification starting from $698.63 per week (if 17 years of age) or from $816.52 (18+ years of age), plus 12 per cent superannuationPayment of all course feesPaid time to study and attend compulsory classesAdverse Working Conditions Allowance per hour $0.51Yearly pay reviews and increases based on performance38 hour working week with nine-day fortnightFour weeks paid annual leaveBe mentored and work closely with a team of qualified Tradespeople in a supportive, empowering, innovative and collaborative work environmentClick here to view more benefits on offer at Lake MacABOUT YOU We are looking for people who:
have a minimum of Year 10 High School Certificate (or finishing Year 10 this year)are interested in construction and a willingness to learn from the skilled trades teamare committed to completing the training course requirements over two yearsenjoy working in a teamhave a good attention to detail and experience in multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced changing environmenthave a positive attitude towards safety in both compliance of procedures and behaviors on the worksiteare able to satisfy the basic manual handling and physical requirements and have an interest in gaining technical knowledge and learning skills relating to general workshold a minimum of Provisional Drivers LicenceWorkCover Construction Induction Card or equivalent.Candidates who have completed a Certificate III Civil Construction qualification or higher are not eligible to apply.
