About the team
The Cultural Heritage Advisor is an important position that sits within the heritage compliance work stream in the Heritage and First Nations team - high performing professionals that deliver quality protection, conservation, compliance, and First Nations services and expertise for the City. The team is situated in the Sustainability, Heritage and Compliance Branch of the Department Environment, Heritage and Resilience.
About your new role
As Cultural Heritage Advisor, your specialist advice and support will ensure that the City's project activities do not harm cultural heritage in compliance with statutory obligations and stakeholder expectations. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of City projects in a supportive team environment and responsible for assisting our existing team in the provision of quality archaeological and Aboriginal cultural heritage assessment and management services.
You will use your expertise, skills and experience to conduct heritage risk assessments; contribute to improved risk management processes; manage heritage work programs and surveys and engage with consultants, including Aboriginal parties and their technical advisors.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Fulfil the role of cultural heritage advisor on multiple project delivery teams, providing cultural heritage risk assessments, advice and management services as part of the implementation of capital and operational work programs, including the planning, design, construction and maintenance of projects and associated City operations. Promote, foster and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including consultants, Aboriginal parties and technical advisors, concerned with the management of cultural heritage relevant to the City's interest. Provide information and advice to stakeholders on relevant legislation, City procedures, and requirements for cultural heritage management. Develop and implement new systems and procedures to improve cultural heritage management performance within the City. Identify, develop and deliver training packages to ensure that relevant stakeholders have an awareness of cultural heritage management requirements. We're looking for people who have: Bachelor degree in a relevant cultural heritage practice (archaeology, cultural heritage management, anthropology). At least 2 years of industry experience in relevant cultural heritage management. Technical archaeological skills and demonstrated experience conducting Aboriginal cultural heritage assessments and surveys for risk management. Experience providing detailed technical and statutory advice on Aboriginal cultural heritage matters. Strong understanding of Queensland heritage legislation and cultural heritage compliance best practice principles. Relevant cultural heritage management experience associated with the delivery of infrastructure projects. Demonstrated experience preparing quality technical reporting and associated management and mitigation strategies. Ability to utilise and apply expertise to analyse information, make effective decisions and problem solve. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information effectively and negotiate reasonably practicable outcomes. Ability to work independently and within a team environment and foster good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Hold a Class C current unrestricted driver's licence - Desirable. Be part of shaping the Gold Coast's future.
