We know that working in the DFV and Wellbeing sector is hard work, and we take care of our team.
The Role
The Child & Youth DFV Counsellor role is to provide counselling to children and young people aged 5-17 years who have been exposed to domestic and family violence.
The role is to also address the impacts of trauma on children and young people using an integrated theoretical counselling approach, the development of safe therapeutic relationships and, in collaboration with the rest of the team, to nurture healthy relationships within the family unit.
Counselling and support activities (such as group work) with children and young people aim to support clients to express their feelings and support them to understand their fears, emotions and behaviours and to establish support around each client to help manage the impact of domestic and family violence.
The support aims to assist the client to deal with the domestic and family violence to which they have been exposed, help break the often cyclical, intergenerational nature of domestic and family violence, and to help move towards recovery.
