Branch: Canberra Flexible role with competitive salary and benefits Full time/ part time position Location: Braddon, ACT Key Responsibilities The key responsibilities for the Child Occupational Therapist will be to improve the daily functioning of children between the ages of 0 and 12 years who have experienced trauma and enhance their ability to participate and engage in everyday life situations.
This will be achieved by building sensory, cognitive, behaviour, motor, social and independence skills.
The Occupational Therapist will develop individualised treatment plans that target identified goals that arise from the assessment process and are developed in conjunction with the child and family.
Play will be used to engage children, to support their participation, learning and skill development.
The Occupational Therapist will work with parents and carers to support and nurture their child to enhance participation across all environments.
Quality Intake and Assessment Process Provide a quality intake and assessment process. Participate in the MDT shared intake and triage processes. Conduct comprehensive assessments according to service processes/requirements and sector guidelines. Provide information regarding a more relevant service when inappropriate referrals are received. Provide feedback and follow up to referring party. Quality Occupational Therapy Intervention Service Ensure sessions are provided in line with Occupational Therapy and Marymead CatholicCare Code of Ethics and Conduct. Inform the child of the limitations of confidentiality and obligations under the Child Protection and Privacy Act. Use professional judgement regarding liaison and feedback with parents. Prepare for all sessions, including resources required. Adopt a range of evidence-based interventions appropriate for use with children under the age of 12 and their families. Offer up to 5 client sessions per working day (incorporating some care coordination calls). Attend schools or client homes to assist in assessment and intervention where necessary. Participate in joint assessments with other MDT members as indicated. Liaise with relevant key stakeholders e.g.
teachers, medical professionals. Clinical and Administrative Standards Maintain client records per program policy and within policy timeframes. Complete support letters and reports as required. Make case notes for every interaction regarding the case, including correspondence, e-mails, and other documents. Complete Connx timesheets on a fortnight basis (when applicable). Supervision and Professional Development Attend, organize, and carry out professional supervision and training as appropriate. Participate in supervision and ongoing training. Manage PD requirements including attending core training required by the agency. Group Programs Co-facilitate group-based programs for children and their families.
Training in specific programs may be required.
Facilitation of these programs may be required after usual business hours to ensure accessibility for families.
Team Meetings The occupational therapist will attend, participate and contribute towards team meetings, including being on time and prepared.
Professional Quality Service The occupational therapist will maintain professional communication and provide timely responses to all stakeholders.

Ideal Person The ideal person we are looking for has: Relevant accreditation as a Mental Health endorsed Occupational Therapist. Demonstrated skills and experience working in the mental health sector with individuals and families. Commitment to and proficiency delivering evidence-based interventions. Good verbal and written communication skills; good time management. You will also be required to undergo a National Police Check.
Minimum Requirements To be considered for this role you will also be required to hold:
