About Us Migiziwazison Healing Lodge is a community-based emergency shelter dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for women and children who are escaping domestic violence, gender-based violence, family violence, and all forms of abuse. Position Overview We are currently seeking a Child Support Worker to join our front-line team, offering support to children during their stay at the shelter. In this role, you will work closely with families, assessing children's needs, offering emotional support, and assisting with necessary referrals and appointments. You will create engaging programs and activities for the children, ensuring that each child feels valued and supported throughout their stay at Migiziwazison Healing Lodge.
Duties and Responsibilities Communicate effectively with children and their families, helping with referrals, appointments, and case planning.Design, implement, and monitor age-appropriate programming that supports healthy development and emotional well-being.Facilitate group and cultural programming, including parenting education, land-based teachings, healing circles, and music and movement sessions.Foster children's resilience and strengthen family relationships through a strength-based approach focused on trauma recovery and healing from past harm.Provide individual counseling and emotional support to children, promoting their personal growth and well-being.Promote positive communication and actively support the rebuilding of family dynamics.Maintain accurate, up-to-date client records and documentation daily.Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development workshops.Provide guidance and support to other staff, volunteers, and practicum students as needed.Qualifications and Skills Diploma in Childhood Education is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.Experience in childcare, respite, or day care services is an asset.Demonstrated experience and skills in supporting children and families impacted by family violence, trauma, or other challenges.Familiarity with community resources and programs that support families.Knowledge of Anishinaabe history, traditions, culture, and community values.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to advocate effectively for children and families.Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.Certification in CPR/First Aid, as well as training in Suicide Intervention and Prevention, and Non-violent Crisis Intervention are assets.Valid Manitoba driver's license required.Clear Criminal Record, Child Abuse, and Adult Abuse Registry Checks are required.Application Process Interested candidates are invited to submit their cover letter and resume to:
