Our services provide specialised support to address immediate safety needs and provide casework, referrals, and connection to assist the healing and recovery journey.
About the role  We are seeking a passionate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person for the Child and Youth Support Worker position.
Your role will be to work alongside the Child Youth Specialist and Case Managers to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children impacted by family violence, who are living in the community or who have recently left the refuge.This will involve assisting with programs for children and young people at the service including play-based and educational activities, assisting with casework tasks and practical support for children, young people and their families.
This is a Permanent Full-Time position based at the Catherine Haven service in Broken Hill, NSW.
Salary in accordance with SCHADS Level 4.
Please note this position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent only as The Salvation Army considers being an Aboriginal and a Torres Strait Islander woman is a genuine occupational requirement for the position under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 No 48 (NSW).
You will successfully Provide culturally responsive support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children impacted by family violence, aiming to improve connections with community, Country, and culture.
In conjunction with the Child and Youth Specialist Worker, assist with Child and Youth groups and programs Attend home visits with case managers to assist with family's intake/assessment and case planning processes.
Working with the Child and Youth Specialist, case managers and other relevant staff, assist with the referral of mothers and their children to appropriate services where required  Assist clients to access support services and establish community supports, and where needed assist through advocacy with service providers Collaborate with other service providers and community groups Take part in community awareness raising and development projects and events Support day-to-day operations at the refuge   You will have  Current Employee NSW Working with Children Check.
Valid NSW Driver Licence.
Demonstrated cultural expertise and experience engaging with First Nations Peoples, families, communities, and service providers Relevant qualifications in welfare, community development or related field AND/OR demonstrated knowledge and skills attained through previous employment/community work Willingness to complete further training, education and qualification Experience in supporting Aboriginal children, young people and families, especially those who have experienced family violence, is desirable.
