THE ROLE We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Microbiology Scientist to lead and oversee departmental testing and operations whilst fostering a collaborative and high performing environment in the laboratory.
The Chief Microbiology Scientist will manage the development, validation, implementation of protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. This role involves strategic planning, client and resource management to optimise laboratory performance support clinical needs.
Responsibilities include: Manage the department's annual operating plan and financial budgets.Monitor and report on monthly financial KPI's.Prepare and submit recommendations for capital expenditure.Ensure staff numbers for the department meet business requirements and KPI's.Prepare, submit for approval, and implement a detailed annual business plan for the department.Ensure business unit requirements are understood and focused on.Oversight of departmental testing, development and validation of methods.Maintain current scientific knowledge via appropriate resources (e.g., journals, scientific meetings, market developments in equipment and relevant technology).Ensure all work practices and procedures are in place and followed by all department employees to ensure compliance with NATA/TGA/NPACC and the company's system.Proactively drive quality and workflow improvement initiatives.Collaborate with P&C to manage the recruitment and selection of all department employees by following the company's recruitment and selection policy and procedures.Ensure new employees receive induction to their new workplace and support the ongoing development of employees' skills and knowledge to meet job requirements.Manage employee work performance and morale and address poor performance in a timely manner.Ensuring SLA are met including client requirements.REQUIREMENTS To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the following essential requirements:
Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or similar.6 years' experience as a senior scientist in a related field with exposure across pathology.Minimum 2 years in a senior supervisory role with management of rosters, KPIs, turnaround times and performance management.Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide staff.Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities.Drive continuous improvement and innovation in laboratory practices.Ability to foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork and knowledge sharing.Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases.BENEFITS You will be offered a competitive salary based on experience, onsite parking and access to a range of employee benefits, including exclusive discounts, professional development opportunities, and programs designed to support your health and wellbeing.
