To be successful you will provide expert, authoritative, epidemiological, and strategic advice within the field of public health microbiology state-wide to Queensland Health, nationally to OzFoodNet, and the Commonwealth Department of Health (Office of Health Protection).
Duties include the management of staff and of the laboratory's resources, budgets, reporting, recruitment, and HR practices.Drive performance benchmarks, client satisfaction and service delivery, including evaluation of levels of service and activity to ensure that the services provided by section meet the needs of its clients.Support, foster and contribute to public health microbiology research and surveillance projects of critical importance to Queensland Health supporting the enhanced epidemiological typing of bacteria, improved capability in laboratory outbreak investigations and the provision of essential data to Queensland Health and other Disease Intelligence networks or agencies.Key competencies (role specific criteria)You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:Demonstrated personal qualities of leadership and knowledge, expertise, and skill for the strategic management of human, financial and physical resources of a specialised Public Health Microbiology laboratory.Demonstrated ability to apply an expert level of knowledge and skills in complex contemporary public health microbiological practice in a strategic State-wide and National capacity.Demonstrated ability to provide authoritative counsel in matters relating to public health microbiology to stakeholders both within and outside of the discipline, across Queensland Health.Demonstrated ability to lead or investigate complex public health microbiological problems and apply high-level public health microbiological expertise into the development of policies guidelines and professional standards.Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership in a laboratory that meets or exceeds NATA requirements and to provide expert training and guidance to specialist-level scientists looking to build expert microbiological expertise.Any other duties role as required by line management.Qualifications, registrations, and other requirementsThe successful applicant must hold a tertiary qualification (bachelor's degree or higher) with microbiology being a major field of study.A history of publications in the field of public health microbiology, post-graduate qualifications or further education in pathogen genomics and/or leadership and management, while not mandatory would be well regarded.How to applyPlease provide the following information to the panel to assess your suitability:A short-written response (maximum 1-2 pages, dot points acceptable) on how your experience, abilities, knowledge, and personal qualities would enable you to achieve the key responsibilities and meet the skill requirements of the role.Your current CV or resume, including two referees who have a thorough knowledge of your capabilities, work performance and conduct within the previous two years.
