We are part of Healius Pathology, one of the largest pathology providers in Australia, conducting one in three pathology tests performed in the country.
This role involves leading the GD QLD laboratory, overseeing planning, coordination, and supervision of technical, operational, and financial activities, as well as personnel. The Chief Scientist ensures quality assurance, safety, and accreditation requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage technical, operational, clinical, and financial aspects of the GD QLD Cytogenomics Laboratory under the National Business Manager and Chief Genetic Pathologist.
Supervise and support technical and operational employees.
Manage laboratory quality assurance processes with the Quality and Risk Manager.
Ensure adherence to NPAAC and ISO standards through successful accreditation and QAP performance.
Oversee clinical governance processes with the Chief Genetic Pathologist.
Mitigate clinical risks and escalate incidents to the Chief Genetic Pathologist.
Evaluate, plan, implement, and recommend strategies to increase Cytogenomics testing capacity.
Provide strategic leadership for national Cytogenomics testing delivery.
Analyze, interpret, report, and validate results within Cytogenomics.
Recommend and endorse test methods, including validation and implementation.
Develop business plans and labour costings for assays, instrumentation, and resources.
Manage laboratory KPIs, including TATs and associated metrics.
Meet service level agreements; advise the National Business Manager of any threats or challenges.
Recruit and induce new employees as required.
About You:
Undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Science or related discipline) recognised by AIMs, HGSA, or RCPA.
Demonstrated skills in collaborative and accountable leadership.
Significant leadership experience with key organisational strategy development and implementation.
Demonstrable experience in building positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
Practical knowledge of project management principles.
Excellent knowledge in pathology, laboratory practices, and systems.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organise, and manage competing priorities.
Strong attention to detail and complex information processing.
High-level written and verbal communications skills.

Salary: AU$140,000 - AU$180,000 per annum
