YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operating Officer is a senior executive role within the Suburban Land Agency and part of the senior leadership team.
The Chief Operating Officer provides leadership and strategic acumen, focusing on governance, innovation, collaboration, and high performance to support SLA in strategic and operational delivery.
The role has responsibility for enabling SLA to operate in a professional manner that satisfies the requirement of governing legislation, embedding effective governance systems, processes, and reporting, as well as work, health, and safety practices which provide assurance in meeting whole of government requirements. This role has primary responsibility for enabling the sustained performance of SLA through its people and governance practices and has a strong focus on driving organisational value through the measurement, allocation, and reporting of financial and non-financial performance metrics. The role has direct oversight of the Chief Financial and Program Officer, Chief Information Officer, and land coordination functions within the organisation. The Chief Operating Officer manages Board governance, support, and reporting functions.
The role requires building and maintaining strategic relationships across SLA and the ACT Government and takes responsibility to implement policies and deliver projects that support the achievement of Government's strategic priorities and SLA's financial and non-financial performance goals.
An established record in governance, finance, commercial and corporate leadership, and strategic policy implementation is essential. Demonstrated experience in dealing with an extensive range of policy, projects, commercial and legal matters, procurement, financial management, people management, government, the wider community, and business is essential.
The position requires a person with exceptional executive management skills who will provide leadership and direction in the planning and delivery of services across the business, robust assurance, and project management governance which enables SLA to deliver its program of work.
Demonstrated leadership skills to build high performing teams, business management, and establishing productive inter-governmental relations and commitment to public service integrity is essential. Demonstrated capacity to be a thought partner on all critical leadership, operational, and strategic decisions affecting SLA is required.
SELECTION CRITERIA (EXECUTIVE CAPABILITIES) To be a strong contender for this critical role, you will need to have a demonstrated track record of successfully leading a significant change management program in a complex, politically sensitive, and operationally diverse environment. You will have an impressive strategic perspective and previous experience in leading and implementing reform, an innovative approach to complex problem solving, and a clear focus on delivering outcomes. You will also have a demonstrated ability to engage critical senior stakeholders and the personal qualities necessary to influence outcomes through collaboration and consensus. Relevant tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded, as will experience working with a Board and associated governance responsibilities.

Significant executive level experience working in a commercial environment across the public and private sectors will be highly regarded. Remuneration: The position attracts a remuneration package ranging from $321,988 - $334,882 depending on the current superannuation arrangements of the successful applicant. This includes a cash component of $286,536. Contract: The successful applicant will be engaged under a performance-based long-term contract for a period of up to five years.
