On behalf of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research (the Perkins), Derwent is delighted to invite applications for the position of Chief Financial Officer.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for steering the Institute's financial strategy and ensuring the implementation of contemporary and responsible finance, risk management, and business continuity practices. The CFO collaborates closely with the Executive Team to drive the financial performance of the organisation and to promote a strong culture of corporate governance. This includes overseeing internal control systems, risk management, audit effectiveness, and ensuring appropriate disclosure practices are maintained. Additionally, the CFO performs the role of Company Secretary for the Perkins.
Required skills and attributes:
The successful candidate will be a professionally qualified Accountant with Executive-level experience leading a finance division in a similarly complex organisation. You will have a strong track record in identifying efficiencies, streamlining processes, and driving automation with exceptional financial expertise, commercial acumen, and analytical skills. The ability to deliver compelling and accessible dashboard reports and model and analyse data for informed business decisions aligned with the Institute's strategic objectives will be a key factor in the assessment. As a strategic leader, you will inspire and uplift the organisation's reporting capabilities, providing transparency and accountability at all levels.
In addition to financial expertise and leadership qualities, the successful candidate will oversee the development and implementation of the Business Continuity Management Framework. A key focus will be fostering a cohesive, high-performance culture that prioritises inclusion, safety, and ethical conduct. Critical skills for the CFO will include inspirational leadership, change management, innovation, and the ability to influence and drive positive change across the organisation.
