Purpose of the Position
Provide expert strategic financial advice and leadership to ensure strong financial stewardship of the Institute's budget to meet financial performance targets and compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks. This role is part of the Executive Leadership Team; and it contributes to the design, implementation, and monitoring of the Institute's business operations. The position leads and directs the operations of the Work Unit that include Institute-wide responsibilities for: financial services, budget management and reporting, including statutory reporting; and procurement management.
Duties Provide high level strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Advisory Team, Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee, and Council members on all aspects of the Institute's financial management, operations, and reporting. Drive a culture of achievement through constructive leadership practices with a focus on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of finance related programs and services and by promoting high level professionalism and innovation. Deliver strong financial stewardship and governance of the Institute's budget to meet strategic priorities and ensure revenue and expenditure targets together with legislative and tax obligations are met. Prepare and provide advice on complex correspondence and documentation, including briefings, financial statements, reports, and proposals. Play a leadership role in resolving multiple and complex operational program delivery issues. Develop effective alliances and partnerships with internal and external key stakeholders to ensure collaborative relationships. Represent the Institute in a range of high-level whole of government, cross-sector, and community. High levels of accountability, integrity, credibility, discreteness, and confidentiality. Key Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations. Demonstrated executive level leadership skills in the finance sector including strategy development, business planning, change management, resolution of complex operational issues, leading complex projects and driving innovation. A strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Corporate Accounting principles and practices with proven experience directing and managing large and complex budgets, EOFY processes, statutory reporting, and audits. Proven influencing skills with the ability to manage complex relations with internal and external stakeholders and lead change to achieve business and educational outcomes. High level human resource and financial management skills. Relevant tertiary qualifications and either CA or CPA membership. Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the Institute's structure, functions, and objectives. We encourage people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background to apply.
