Independent Corporate Commonwealth EntityLocation: Thursday Island, QLDSubstantial six figure remuneration packageThe position of Chief Executive Officer is established under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Act 2005 and is accountable to the elected membership of the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA). The TSRA is a Corporate Commonwealth entity representing Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginal people living in the Torres Strait region.The TSRA plays a vital role in recognising and maintaining the unique culture of Torres Strait Islanders, conducting programs for the benefit of Indigenous people, providing data, developing policy, advising and being accountable to the TSRA elected membership. The TSRA works with governments and Indigenous communities, organisations and individuals at national, state, territory and regional levels.The Chief Executive Officer is appointed by the Minister for Indigenous Australians with the agreement of the TSRA Board. Leading contenders will have an impeccable track record in executive roles and senior strategic and operational management experience. A commitment to effective public sector performance and a strong understanding of legislation and key policy issues relevant to the TSRA and the Torres Strait region is highly desirable.The successful candidate will also have demonstrated capacity to work closely with the private sector to promote economic development in the region and experience in managing infrastructure programs. In having a very good capacity to understand, support and progress the TSRA's objectives and role, it is essential that the Chief Executive Officer is a trusted leader who can build collaborative relationships with Indigenous people in the Torres Strait region.Commensurate with the responsibilities of the position, a six-figure remuneration package is available in accordance with the Remuneration Tribunal (Remuneration and Allowances for Holders of Full-time Public Office) Determination 2024.Qualifications And ExperienceRelevant tertiary qualifications in business, accounting or finance will be highly regarded.Private sector experience is also desirable.EligibilityThe filling of this vacancy is intended to constitute an Affirmative Measure – Indigenous position under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 and is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidates.This position is also Identified which signifies that the role has a strong involvement in matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.Information for CandidatesBefore applying, please obtain selection documentation by emailing ****** quoting Ref.
