Chief Executive Officer – Permanent Position Information for applicants The Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre Inc seeks applications from a dynamic and experienced person to lead the Centre in the position of Chief Executive Officer.
The position would be ideal for an experienced community legal sector worker with demonstrated strategic leadership and management capacity, who is seeking an opportunity to lead a dynamic and committed team of workers and volunteers working within a social justice framework.
ABOUT US: NRCLC has a strong reputation across the CLC sector for its innovative, multidisciplinary team who provide high quality legal, advocacy and support services to disadvantaged groups within the Northern Rivers region in Northern NSW.
Based in Lismore and with an outreach office in Murwillumbah (Tweed Valley), the Centre operates a Generalist Legal Service, Tenants Advice and Advocacy Service, Women's Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service and the Tweed Valley and Richmond Local Coordination Points.
We also conduct an Aboriginal Legal Access Project.
All services operate from a social justice perspective in a not-for-profit non-government organisational setting, supported by a community management model.
Our programs are funded through a variety of different sources, each with differing targets, expectations and contract arrangements.
KEY DETAILS: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides leadership for NRCLC and works with the Committee of Management (COM) to lead, develop and execute NRCLC's strategic plans, priorities and objectives.
The CEO is responsible for the effective operation of all services and projects of the Centre, including compliance with accreditation, funding agreements and legislative requirements.
The CEO role also fulfils the delegated management functions of the Centre's Committee of Management and provides overall management to NRCLC and its multidisciplinary team.
This is a 28 hour per week position.
The position is banded from SCHADS 8 under the NRCLC Enterprise Agreement 2015-19, with a salary range $130,644 to $137,579 pro-rata (dependent upon qualifications, skills and experience), plus superannuation, leave loading and PBI salary packaging.

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION This information sheet is intended to give you a better understanding of Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre recruitment and selection procedures and assist you in submitting your application.
Applications: The Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre does not use application forms.
You should apply in writing for the position, addressing the selection criteria (see below).
You will need to specifically respond to EACH of the criteria in your application, demonstrating how you meet the criteria.
If you do not address the selection criteria, it is unlikely that you will be considered for the position.
You should include a resume which sets out your personal details (name, address and contact details), education, previous positions and experience, and two referees from direct supervisors in recently held previous positions.
Ideally, we are also seeking two letters of support from either an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation or community leaders who are able to speak to your work with Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander communities.

Copies of degrees, diplomas etc: It is not necessary to include these with your application.
Successful applicants may be required to provide copies of academic qualifications.
Short Listing: The Selection Panel will interview shortlisted applicants.
Letters will be sent to other applicants advising them their applications were not successful.
Interviews: Local applicants may be interviewed in person while applicants from outside the local region will generally be interviewed by video conference (Zoom or Teams).
For video interviews, applicants are expected to ensure they have adequate equipment etc (i.e., camera, microphone and bandwidth) to facilitate clear communication with the Selection Panel.
The interview panel will comprise five people.
A list of the questions, all based on the selection criteria, will be provided to interviewees 30 minutes prior to the interview.
Offer of Appointment: The successful applicant will be sent a letter of appointment enclosing details of the hours and pay rate.
Eligibility List: Applicants who meet the selection criteria but are not the highest scoring interviewee may be placed on a six-month eligibility list.
If the successful applicant resigns within this period, the position can be offered to people on the eligibility list, in the order in which they have been placed by the selection panel.
Where a similar position becomes vacant within the organisation, the highest-ranking member of the six-month eligibility list may be offered the position, provided that the Chairperson is satisfied that the list member meets the criterion for the subsequent position.
Appeals: Applicants who are dissatisfied with the decision of the selection panel or any aspect of the recruitment or selection process should outline their concerns in a letter to the Management Committee.

Selection Criteria Applicants must address each of the essential and desirable selection criteria separately in their application.
Essential criteria: Relevant tertiary qualification at Bachelor level (or equivalent) or higher, or a demonstrated record of equivalent achievements as per Position Description.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to social justice (we will expect you to define your understanding of social justice in your application and demonstrate how you have applied your commitment).
Demonstrated experience and understanding of working with diverse and vulnerable communities, including in the Domestic and Family Violence Sector and with First Nations communities.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary organisation within the Community Legal Sector, similar not-for-profit organisation, and/or the legal industry.
Demonstrated experience in strategic leadership and organisational or sector development, including relationship building, engagement and project management.
Demonstrated experience in managing financial accountability and diversifying organisational funding.
Demonstrated high level staff management and supervision skills, and the ability to promote a co-operative, collaborative, safe and respectful work environment.
High level networking skills, ability to join existing networks, and create new ones.
Current driver's licence and ability to travel within the Northern Rivers region and Sydney for network meetings.
Desirable criteria: Experience and skills in the effective use of social media to raise organisational profile.
Efficient computer skills and ability to use MS Office suite of applications.
