The Carpentaria Shire Council is situated in Northwestern Queensland along the picturesque Gulf of Carpentaria and encompass a vast area of approximately 65,000 square kilometres and serves a population of just over 2000 residents primarily residing in Normanton and Karumba.The council is committed to fostering a safe, healthy, and equitable community while preserving the region's environmental assets and promoting economic development. With a dedicated workforce of around 100 staff and a budget of approximately $70 million, Carpentaria Shire Council is focused on delivering essential services, maintaining infrastructure, and driving initiatives that enhance the quality of life and prosperity of its residents.About the RoleCarpentaria Shire Council is seeking a visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead and manage the organisation, driving strategic direction and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to the community. Reporting to the Council through the Mayor, the CEO will oversee a team of directors and executives, shaping the future of the Shire and contributing to its growth and prosperity.Responsibilities of the PositionProvide strong leadership and strategic planning, collaborating with Council and senior executives to develop and implement a ten-year strategic plan and annual operating business plans.Manage financial, operational, and service management aspects, ensuring prudent expenditure within budget constraints and maintaining high-quality service standards.Foster community development and stakeholder relations, cultivating relationships with government, community groups, and funding agencies to enhance services and promote Council's positive image.Drive workforce capability by managing human resources effectively and contributing to recruitment, retention, and staff development initiatives.Oversee quality, risk, and compliance management, implementing strategies to identify and mitigate operational risks and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.Uphold good governance practices, maintaining professional governance protocols and reporting regularly to the Council on organizational performance and key initiatives.Provide strong leadership and strategic planning, collaborating with Council and senior executives to develop and implement a ten-year strategic plan and annual operating business plans.Manage financial, operational, and service management aspects, ensuring prudent expenditure within budget constraints and maintaining high-quality service standards.Foster community development and stakeholder relations, cultivating relationships with government, community groups, and funding agencies to enhance services and promote Council's positive image.Drive workforce capability by managing human resources effectively and contributing to recruitment, retention, and staff development initiatives.Oversee quality, risk, and compliance management, implementing strategies to identify and mitigate operational risks and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.Uphold good governance practices, maintaining professional governance protocols and reporting regularly to the Council on organizational performance and key initiatives.Skills and Experience required Proven experience in a senior leadership role, preferably within local government or related sectors.Strong strategic planning and financial management skills, with the ability to develop and implement operational business plans.Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the capacity to foster positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.Sound knowledge of governance principles, risk management, and compliance frameworks.Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a diverse workforce, driving a culture of innovation and service excellence.The Chief Executive Officer role at Carpentaria Shire Council offers a unique opportunity to lead and shape the strategic direction of a diverse local government organization, driving community development and service excellence.
