Chief Executive Officer - AIATSIS

Shine People Solutions is an Aboriginal owned recruitment agency, and we assist organisations with recruitment of Indigenous executives and professionals. We are working with the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) to appoint their Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to be based in Canberra. This is an Affirmative Measures opportunity open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people only.

About AIATSIS
AIATSIS is Australia's only national institution focused exclusively on the diverse history, cultures, and heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia. AIATSIS house the world's most important and extensive collection of cultural information and material, and provide leadership, publish and promote greater understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. They create opportunities for people the world over to engage with and be transformed by the knowledge, the culture and the story of Australia's Indigenous peoples. They are Australia's national institution for leadership in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research.

About The CEO Role
An opportunity exists as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. The ideal candidate will be an exemplary dynamic and energetic leader with excellent influencing and negotiation skills. They will have demonstrative experience as a visionary leader of a large institution, agency, or group with the ability to promote a deeper engagement with and foster innovation in use of the AIATSIS collection, together with an enhanced quality of research that improves outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage rights across Australia.

To be a strong contender for this role, you will need to be agile, innovative, and flexible with an outstanding record of achievement in leading people effectively and managing resources to accomplish high quality results. You must be a strong communicator able to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partners, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, including traditional owners and other cultural institutions relevant to the sector.

You will need to have a strong undertaking of strategic thinking, be self-motivated, display resilience, and be easily adaptable to fast-paced, complex, and changing work environment. You must have the ability to build strong, respectful, and productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders, to negotiate and implement significant and highly complex policy agreements, in line with the AIATSIS Council Strategic Direction.

Cultural Capability: The CEO is responsible for creating a culturally responsive environment using an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led approach to be responsive to the diverse needs, backgrounds, experiences, and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. This involves respectful and genuine engagement and relationship building with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. This Cultural Responsiveness is valuing the knowledge and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the experts in leading cultural change within policies and practice to create a culturally capable environment for all.

About You
Essential Criteria: Achieves sustained results. Cultivates productive working relationships. Exemplifies personal drive and integrity. Communicates with influence. Shapes strategic thinking.
Desirable Criteria: A post graduate degree in a relevant field will be highly regarded. Experience and/or an understanding of the Galleries, Libraries and Museums (GLAM) Sector highly desirable. To Apply
