Rarely is there an opportunity to capitalise on national alignment as there is now.
As the national standards development organisation for the rail sector, RISSB is uniquely positioned to lead conversations across government and industry to enhance national standards and reshape the role that national standards play in enabling and driving gains in industry safety, efficiency, and sustainability in the coming decade.

The OrganisationAt the heart of Australia's rail network lies the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) - the engine room of the development of harmonised standards and codes of practice that enable the rail industry to function more safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
As the rail industry's Standards Development Organisation, RISSB's core responsibility is the development, management, and evolution of the Australian Code of Practice - a comprehensive framework of standards, codes, guidelines, and rules for the rail sector.

The OpportunityUnder the leadership of a newly appointed Chair, the CEO will drive RISSB's strategic vision, implementing a new strategy focused on sector leadership, operational excellence, and fostering strong industry and government partnerships.
This is a rare chance to lead a nationally influential organisation, shaping the standards that underpin the entire rail sector.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the development and execution of the business plan, ensuring alignment with RISSB's strategic objectives and the needs of its diverse membership base.
You will work closely with the board to ensure RISSB achieves national impact and member value, ensuring the financial sustainability and position of the organisation in a dynamic industry landscape.
As CEO, you will lead a dedicated team to achieve national impact, managing operations with a focus on excellence.
You will be focused on shaping RISSB as a modern organisation, with a strong technical capability to deliver high quality products for members and the sector more broadly.
You will use your solid industry relationships and national network to uplift RISSB's engagement with government bodies and industry stakeholders, ensuring that the organisation continues to set the benchmark for rail standards in Australia.

About YouYou will be a strategic leader and driver of change with broad experience across the transport sector, equipped to shape the future of national rail standards.
With strong system-level thinking and the ability to navigate complex governance structures, you will play a key role as RISSB expands its work within the context of the national rail reform agenda.
You will have a proven track record in stakeholder engagement across jurisdictions, particularly with government bodies and industry operators, positioning RISSB as a trusted partner in national rail standards development.
Your confidence, presence, and national network will ensure you are a credible voice in high-level discussions, driving RISSB's strategic vision.
Success in this role will require strong leadership to guide RISSB in steering through sector change.
The preferred candidate will bring strong experience in or working with the public sector, along with the ability to build partnerships and align efforts in advancing national rail standards.
While deep technical expertise in rail safety isn't required, a background in transport and strong operational management skills will enable you to lead a high-performing team and deliver on RISSB's contribution to the sector.
This is a unique opportunity to drive sector reform and influence the future direction of Australia's rail sector.

What's on OfferA competitive remuneration package is available, including support for remote work.
RISSB's main office is in Brisbane, though the successful candidate may reside in any major city within Australia.
