THE ROLE: As Austrade's CEO, you will head an organisation that plays a major role in driving Australia's economic prosperity. The role requires a fast-thinking, results-oriented leader who responds quickly to rapid, and sometimes unexpected, changes in global trade and investment and world economies. You must be passionate about promoting Australia to the world – as a reliable source of high quality goods and services; as a safe, stable and resilient location for investment; and a premier destination for world-leading education and tourism. As the CEO, you will work to increase Australian exports and investment, in alignment with the Australian Government strategic priorities; Trade and Investment Diversification, Net Zero, Economic Security, First Nations, Visitor Economy and Trade Modernisation. You will help enhance Australian companies' ability to do business globally through national, industry, market and company-focused programs. In addition to Austrade's core functions in providing practical advice and assistance, you will oversee effective delivery of the Export Market Development Grants scheme, purchase/provider arrangements for Tradestart, and seminars that increase understanding of Australia's free trade agreements. Finally, you will have oversight of services for which Austrade is responsible, including consular assistance at Austrade-managed overseas posts. Of crucial importance will be your ability to deliver practical, evidence-based trade, tourism and other relevant policy advice to government. The CEO will lead Austrade to achieve its objectives by: Developing Austrade's overall strategy for delivering the Government's trade and investment agenda and maximising the commercial opportunities arising through changing global economic circumstances, in accordance with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission Act 1985 (the Act), and in consultation with the Minister and Austrade's Executive team. Ensuring high standards of service delivery, including through encouraging the development of innovative new projects and up-to-date operating systems. Building business confidence in Austrade's advice, programs and assistance by demonstrating tangible outcomes. Maintaining strong and collaborative relationships across government, and with portfolio and state and territory CEOs. Allocating resources in accordance with short and long-term strategies and operating within the funding envelope. Ensuring Austrade's people can deliver on organisational objectives. Maintaining a strong and effective corporate governance framework. The CEO will enable Austrade to work closely with other agencies within the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio, other Australian Government agencies, state and territory governments, industry associations and business chambers to maximise the value of trade and investment services and programs.
