Chief Executive Officer

Details of the offer

The City of Palmerston, located approximately 20 kilometres southeast of Darwin, is one of the Northern Territory's fastest-growing municipalities. As a modern and dynamic community, Palmerston is known for its welcoming, vibrant, and family-friendly atmosphere, with a focus on diversity, unity, and innovation. The Council's vision is to create a 'Place for People'—a city where everyone belongs and feels safe. As the Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the Council's operations, working closely with Elected Members, the community, and other key stakeholders. You will be responsible for implementing the strategic goals of the Council, managing a $48 million operational budget, and leading the Executive Leadership Team to achieve the objectives of the Community Plan. Your leadership will help drive positive change, foster community engagement, and ensure high-quality service delivery across all areas of the Council's functions. We are seeking a highly capable leader with significant experience at the senior executive level, ideally within Local Government. You will have a strong strategic mindset, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to manage complex projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate financial acumen, the ability to foster positive stakeholder relationships, and an understanding of the legislative and governance requirements of Local Government. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in one of Australia's most rapidly developing regions while enjoying the benefits of a vibrant community, a supportive Council, and a diverse and dynamic work environment. In accordance with section 166 of the Local Government Act, a person is not eligible to be the CEO if the person is disqualified from managing a corporation under the Corporations Act 2001 or the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth) or under section 40 of the Associations Act 2002 or is bankrupt unless these circumstances no longer apply to the person.
