TEMHCO is a not-for-profit community organisation based in Palmerston. Our mission is to promote good mental health, facilitate life skills development, and reduce stigma surrounding mental illness. TEMCHO supports individuals living with mental illness through friendship and understanding. As an organisation, TEMCHO proactively liaises with Government and maintains positive working relationships with diverse community organizations. TEMCHO's membership includes participation in the Northern Territory Mental Health Coalition.TEMHCO produces a quarterly newsletter and conducts community mental health awareness campaigns. TEMCHO's regular activities include hosting peer-to-peer support groups and organising various fundraising community events. As an organisation, TEMCHO offers system advocacy services and referral services to guide individuals toward appropriate services and access helpful resources.TEMHCO's unique model, akin to The Clubhouse Model, supports people living with mental illness rather than functioning as a service or treatment program. TEMCHO members, whose lives have been disrupted by mental illness, can enjoy TEMCHO's safe, caring, and restorative environment to enable connection with others in recovery and develop new friendships. TEMCHO delivers a variety of activities, including therapeutic programs, that promote a sense of achievement and opportunities for mutual support. TEMCHO staff, many of whom with lived mental health experience, provide valuable mentoring support. The CEO is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of the organisation. The CEO will facilitate effective links between government, community managed/non-government and private sector stakeholders to advance TEMCHO's mission. The CEO oversees the day-to-day operations of the organisation and fosters a collaborative and inclusive culture that drives the delivery of efficient high-quality services to TEMCHO members and community.Position ResponsibilitiesStrategic Positioning and PlanningThe CEO:Develops, implements and revises TEMCHO's Strategic Plan and corporate governance documents.Maintains an up-to-date understanding of the organisation's financial position (e.g., income statement, balance sheet, cash flow and other financial measures and clearly reports on the organisation's financial performance to the committee and other relevant stakeholders.Develops effective strategies to engage a broad range of stakeholders to support and advance TEMCHO's aims and objectives ensuring the consumer perspective is embedded in all of TEMCHO's work.Secures funding and resources for TEMCHO through government and non-government grants and partnerships with organisations within and beyond the mental health sector.Develops and maintains robust and effective mechanisms for increasing TEMCHO's membership and incorporates members input into TEMCHO's strategic direction.Governance and ManagementThe CEO:Supports the committee to carry out its functions in accordance with TEMCHO's Constitution, values and all legislative obligations to ensure community expectations in relation to probity, accountability and integrity are met.Develops and maintains rigorous TEMCHO governance frameworks and processes to deliver operational, legislative, and organizational success that ensures TEMCHO is a contemporary, relevant and effective consumer driven organization.Ensures input from members, government non-government agencies including clinical service providers and other relevant stakeholders is obtained to ensure prepared reports, policies and other TEMCHO documents follow best practice and have lived experience perspectives embedded.Delivers comprehensive and timely advice, including clear recommendations, to TEMCHO's committee in respect to organizational issues including potential implications associated with changes to the Constitution and other Governance matters.Provides all stakeholders with timely, complete and accurate information regarding TEMCHO's operations and progress towards its strategic objectives.Provides leadership to, and management of all TEMCHO's staff, volunteers and students.Develops and maintains an organisational strengths-based performance management framework for all staff, students and volunteers.Representation / Public Profile of TEMCHOThe CEO is the public face of TEMCHO and as such the CEO must:Promote the reputation and objectives of TEMCHO in all relevant arenas to ensure a positive corporate image and public profile.Collaborates with the Committee to respond to public requests and queries.Establishes and maintains strong working relationships and partnerships with other agencies involved in mental health care and services.With committee approvals represents TEMCHO on relevant committees to promote lived experience and positive wellbeing for Northern Territory consumers.Corporate RequirementsThe CEO:Is an effective and empathic leader who supports and develops TEMCHO staff, students and volunteers.Has demonstrated experience in cultivating an inclusive culture with clear standards of excellence that enable continuous improvement across the organization.Is experienced in risk management that drives a strong organizational safety culture to ensure TEMCHO complies with organizational Policies and legislative requirements.Reinforces and promotes the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity and diversity in the workplace by modelling and ensuring that all employees and stakeholders are treated with dignity and respect.Is adept in developing and maintaining organizational policies and procedures relevant to this position and workplace.Selection CriteriaLeadership Experience:Proven experience in a senior leadership role, preferably within the mental health or community services sector.Demonstrated ability to resiliently lead and inspire a small diverse team that fosters a complex, collaborative and inclusive organisational culture.Strategic Planning and Implementation:Strong track record in developing and executing strategic plans to achieve organisational goals.Understanding of Mental Health Issues:Demonstrated knowledge of mental health issues and demonstrated commitment to the principles and values of consumer-led organisations.Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement:Demonstrated experience in advocating for the rights and needs of mental health consumers.Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies, community organisations, and funding bodies.Demonstrated ability to secure funding and revenue through grants and fundraising. Proven experience in budgeting, financial planning, and resource management.Communication Skills:Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences. Proven negotiation and interpersonal skills.Personal Attributes:Demonstrated commitment to mental health advocacy and consumer empowerment.Proven strategic leadership experience with experience of co-leading change in a complex workplace.Lived Experience:Personal experience of mental health challenges and recovery, and an understanding of the importance of peer support.Professional Qualifications:Relevant tertiary qualifications in mental health, social work, community services, or a related field.Local Knowledge:Understanding of the specific mental health needs and challenges within the Northern Territory.Candidates are encouraged to address each of the selection criteria in their application, providing examples of their relevant experience and achievements.RemunerationYou can access flexible working arrangements and generous salary packaging options that can increase your take-home pay by paying certain expenses using pre-tax dollars up to $15,899 a year.
