Details of the offer

Chief Executive, Museums of History NSW As custodian of NSW's unique cultural heritage and history, define the future of this new organisation and its significant collections & places. The Organisation Established in 2022, Museums of History NSW (MHNSW) brings together the historic houses, museums and collections previously in the care of Sydney Living Museums with the vast archives and records in the NSW State Archives Collection. Dedicated to engaging people in our past, MHNSW provides greater access to these assets and to a broad range of stories about our social, cultural and political histories and identities. The MHNSW portfolio encompasses 41 sites across 38 hectares of land, including 29 world-leading historic buildings, while the State Archives Collection, including State Records, documents the daily work of the NSW Government and its agencies. This diverse asset portfolio informs the character of our state, providing valuable records of significant events and decisions, and plays a crucial role in our understanding of how history has shaped, and continues to shape, our communities and lives. With the recent launch of Creative Communities – the NSW Government's 10-year vision for the Arts, Culture and Creative Industries in NSW – MHNSW has the opportunity to be a leading entity within NSW's cultural landscape, engaging both local and regional audiences across the state, and expanding its impact through digital outreach and broader educational initiatives. Central to this commitment is focusing a clear and accurate lens on the past that enables a truthful exploration of the continuing, lived impact of colonisation on First Nations communities and their connections to culture and Country. With an approach defined by truth telling and respect, MHNSW aims to build on our shared histories, across our shared landscapes, and heal together for a united future. The Opportunity The new Chief Executive will lead this emerging state significant organisation into the future, establishing MHNSW's role as a key advocate, enabler and investor in NSW's cultural and creative ecosystem. Working with the Board and the Department of Enterprise, Investment & Trade, the Chief Executive will collaborate to shape the future of the organisation, setting the vision and driving alignment with the NSW Government's Arts, Culture and Creative Industries Policy. Key priorities will include developing the strategy, driving operational excellence, and building and strengthening the organisation's partnerships and collaboration across NSW's arts, culture and creative institutions. The Chief Executive will explore commercial opportunities to drive financial sustainability; managing a renowned portfolio of iconic public places and buildings, open space, leisure, events and recreation facilities to cater for diverse user needs. In commitment to community outcomes, the Chief Executive will also grow MHNSW's education, outreach and visitor programs to enrich the lives of local and regional audiences. About You We are looking for a transformational and collaborative leader who will define the future of this new organisation, and its place in NSW's arts, culture and creative industries landscape. You will need to be a visionary and passionate Chief Executive with a demonstrated track record in developing and leading innovative, contemporary and customer-focused teams to deliver across a complex and geographically dispersed organisation. Business acumen and project management skills will be essential, along with exceptional stakeholder engagement to navigate complex interfaces and ensure the ongoing growth, impact and public benefit of these historic assets. Acknowledgment of Country We recognise the long custodianship of Country by First Nations peoples and communities. We acknowledge that our significant sites and the collections, including the extensive State Archives Collection, have complex histories and contexts and that many tell challenging colonial stories that are uncomfortable and very relevant today. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and embrace the opportunity to work with First Nations peoples and communities to support First Nations voices to be heard and valued and to offer our community ways to learn about and engage with First Nations histories and cultures. How to apply To apply, please send your CV and a 1–2-page application letter to MHNSWorchardtalent.com.au . For a copy of the Executive Brief or for a confidential discussion, please contact Felicity Stalley or Phil Graham at MHNSWorchardtalent.com.au . Applications close Sunday 21 July 2024. We believe that diversity allows us to be a true reflection of NSW citizens. We are a respectful workplace committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. If you require an adjustment during the recruitment process, please notify us on your application form. A talent pool may be created from this recruitment action for ongoing and temporary roles for this role or similar roles that may become available over the next 18 months.
