The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) leads the Australian Government's efforts to support, protect and grow the country's food and fibre production industries. We play a pivotal role in contributing to Australia's health and economic prosperity by developing and promoting sustainable agricultural production practices, increasing trade and market access, maximising economic opportunities for our First nations peoples, and keeping Australians safe through effective biosecurity.
Our Digital Business Division leads the development, maintenance, and delivery of the department's data and digital business systems, including day-to-day support, and expanding the department's ability to design and deliver large scale data and digital projects. The division is also responsible for the department's data, digital business and artificial intelligence (AI) strategies and roadmaps that collectively outline the data and digital business vision across the department's key operational functions and within the cross-border supply chain ecosystem.
The job
As the Chief Digital Business Officer your duties include:

Shaping and leading the data and digital business capability for DAFF, including: maturing the workforce, capabilities, processes, tools and methods of operation creating a highly valued and trusted capability that is well connected across the department and externally developing a compelling environment to attract high quality data and digital talent providing a consistent approach to the delivery of data and digital business products across the department setting and leading a culture of collaboration aligned to DAFF's Core 4 values: Working together, courage, Diversity and Excellence. Leading the data and digital product teams that support, maintain, and deliver the products and services used by business areas across the department and integrated with other departments such as Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force. In partnership with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and business system owners, leading the creation and implementation of the department's data, digital business and AI strategies. Working with business system owners and the CIO to coordinate resourcing for projects which are transforming the department's data and digital business systems. Reporting to the department's Digital Business Steering Committee on progress to implement the department's digital business strategy. Working with the Digital Delivery stream leads to: develop ongoing plans (rolling investment roadmaps) for delivery investment. manage allocated resources to ensure that the delivery teams deliver to committed tasks identify and develop a strategy to build the necessary people capability. Providing enterprise data management and governance services for data and AI. Accountability and responsibilities for data and AI on behalf of government within the department. Providing high quality advice to the minister's office as required. Managing relationships with third party digital delivery partners, focusing on performance management against agreed Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators of digital delivery projects. Working with the DAFF Chief Information Officer to regularly monitor and review digital service performance once the service is established. Membership and presence on a number of whole of government committees, including Data Champions Executive and AI Steering Committee. What we are looking for
To be successful for this role you will need to meet the Senior Executive Service capability for the SES Band 2 level, and you will have the following:
Excellent stakeholder relationship skills and experience in engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, from the strategic to the tactical to explore opportunities and solve complex problems. Demonstrated capability as a people-focused leader with a track record in developing a culture of collaboration and collective problem solving. Proven leadership and experience of highly visible, large-scale multi-year digital transformation programs. A proven track record in the design, development, delivery and sustainment of data and digital products and services, and leadership in development of respective delivery capability. Proven capability to develop and implement data and digital strategies in partnership with business and stakeholders. Ability to drive broad change programs, both internal and external to the department. Outstanding leadership skills, a substantial record of achievement and a reputation for innovation and delivery of results. Demonstrated strategic perspective and ability to manage competing demands and work to tight deadlines. Proven understanding of the opportunity, role and application of data, digital and AI in a complex integrated environment. Track record and proven success in maturing a large, multi-team digital division with a mix of major programs and ongoing business system management and support. Highly developed management and stakeholder engagement skills and ability to represent the department as its voice on data and digital and AI products, services and governance at a range of internal and external forums. Ability to communicate effectively with all audiences, be articulate and persuasive and capable of guiding negotiations to a point of resolution in a facilitative way. Demonstrated commitment to promote diversity, model the APS Values, APS Employment Principles and promote compliance with the APS Code of Conduct and the Secretaries Charter of Leadership Behaviours (DRIVE). Demonstrated public service professionalism and probity. Please note the merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies where the duties are of a similar nature.

Security clearance
This position requires a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at the appropriate level for this position.
