DRD are currently looking for a practical Chemist/Scientist with a polymer/organic background to join our client on a full-time basis.
Individuals with a strong knowledge of catalysis are desired.The successful candidate will contribute through product development, technical support and technical service activities to continued diversification of the manufacturing business.In this position you will have the opportunity to develop advanced materials for green energy production, storage, and conversion This is a 6 month contract, Monday - Friday role.
Key accountabilities will include: • Running innovation projects in line with business targets• Characterize catalyst inks using a variety of techniques including rheology, particle size analysis, and surface tension measurements.• Assist in scaling up the formulation processes from the laboratory to pilot and production scale.• Investigate and implement innovative materials and processes to improve the properties of catalyst inks.• Effective tailoring of customised products and services as appropriate to suit key customers' particular application conditions.• Develop and implement QC protocols for the production of catalyst inks, ensuring consistency and quality in every batch.• Document research findings, prepare technical reports, and present results to internal stakeholders• Arranging optimum product development paths, utilising available resources where possible.• Liaising with raw material suppliers and setting specifications.• Developing and optimising existing and new formulations• Ensuring that costs are contained within budget and forecast.
Qualifications and skills required: • Bachelor's Degree, Masters, Honours and/or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Applied Chemistry or similar.• Industry experience within a Chemical Manufacturing Line or worked within a Project Delivery Team• Hands-on experience with material characterization techniques such as SEM, EDS, XRD, XPS, and BET surface area analysis.• Knowledge of statistical analysis and design of experiments (DOE)• Some understanding and industry experience working within one or more of the fields of catalysis, ionomer production, adhesives, coatings, and/or polymer development will see you shortlisted.• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to identify and address technical challenges.• You must be able to manage a variable workload and have the organisational skills to prioritise and focus on delivering functional products.
