About the Program Maryknoll Therapeutic Community (MTC) is a 77-bed facility that provides a safe space for residents to recover and heal by exploring their own life experiences and learning from the experience and insights of others.
About the role We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and passionate Chef/Cook to join our Maryknoll Therapeutic Community on a 12-month fixed-term basis working 38 hours per week. Directly accountable to the Team Leader, the Chef/Cook will provide meals of the highest quality in accordance with our Program.
Provide seasonal meals in line with the Windana menu.Lead the implementation of the Resident Kitchen Induction Program.Assist and guide residents during meal preparation and cooking with hands-on support and application.Manage food quality, portion control and presentation.Cater for special events including community events and formal occasions.Work collaboratively with members of the team and residents of the program.Collaborate with residents and volunteers to utilise produce grown in the therapeutic community garden and grounds.Contribute significantly to a positive work environment, influencing others to embrace integrity and professionalism.What we're looking for Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, (or equivalent) and/or extensive experience in a comparable role.Demonstrated experience working as a Chef and/or Cook, preferably in a residential care environment.Excellent organisational skills, communication skills, and the ability to work within a team.Ability to work under pressure, remain calm, take instruction, and deliver quality meals within strict timelines.Excellent working knowledge in food preparation and kitchen equipment.Self-motivation and the ability to identify and complete needed tasks without direct supervision.Sound knowledge of the Food Safety Guide and regulations and commitment to continuous quality improvement and OHS.A passion for cooking and creating hearty, healthy meals.Hands-on leadership approach and ability to foster safe spaces, creativity, and respect.Strong understanding of financials i.e. budget control and inventory management.The team We're a friendly, dynamic bunch of individuals that value diversity, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
