Exciting opportunity to lead the Shrine of Remembrance Trustees.The Shrine of Remembrance is the National War Memorial of Victoria. Its purpose is to honour the service and sacrifice of Victorians and Australians in war, conflict, peacemaking and peacekeeping. It is among the world's most visited war memorials and one of Melbourne's top three most visited public museums, with more than 600,000 visitors in 2023-24.The Shrine Trustees, led by the Chairperson, form the Shrine's Board of Trustees. Shrine Trustees are appointed by the Governor in Council on behalf of the State of Victoria.Key responsibilities of the Shrine Trustees include:the care, management, maintenance and preservation of the Shrine of Remembrance.engaging people as visitors and participants in commemorative and public programsconducting commemorative ceremonies, including major Anzac Day and Remembrance Day servicesdeveloping and delivering high quality public exhibitions and student education programsAbout the roleThe Trustees Chairperson will lead and support the Shrine Trustees to achieve its objectives and functions under the Shrine of Remembrance Act 1978 (the Act).In this role, you will:Chair Board meetings in a manner that ensures a wide range of views are expressed, clear decisions are made and required actions are agreed upon.Establish and coordinate objectives and activities of the Board and its administrative committees to deliver upon the Board's obligations under the Act and at law.Serve as primary conduit between the Board and the Chief Executive Officer and supporting their role.Oversee and develop Board performance.Represent the Shrine of Remembrance at events as required.Meet on a regular basis with the Minister for Veterans and/or the Minister's Office, on matters relating to the Shrine and veteran community.Represent the Shrine at major veteran commemorative events, and other events as required, in Victoria.Represent the Shrine at meetings with ex-service organisations and the veteran community in Victoria as required.You should expect to devote an average of 12-16 hours per month to Shrine Trustee activities over the course of the year.Who we're looking forWe invite all eligible community leaders to apply to become Chairperson of the Shrine Trustees.To be eligible for appointment to the Chairperson role, you must have "engaged in service or duty as an officer or a member of the naval, military or air forces."
