About the Opportunity
Northern Midlands Council is seeking a full-time Child & Family Centre Director based in Perth, TAS. Reporting to the Corporate Services Manager, you will oversee the operations of our brand-new Child and Family Centre, ensuring that high standards of care and compliance with regulations are consistently maintained. We are seeking a proactive go-getter with strong change management experience, who thrives on challenges and is eager to relocate to regional Tasmania for an exciting new opportunity.
In this role, you will be supported by dedicated teams responsible for financial reporting and payroll management, allowing you to focus on leadership, strategic planning, and fostering a nurturing environment for both staff and families.
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Maintaining high standards of care and education, adhering to EYLF and NQS frameworks
Approving and overseeing individual and group child development plans
Ensuring compliance with childcare licensing and regulatory requirements
Managing Centre budgets, fee setting, and monitoring financial performance
Leading, mentoring, and supporting childcare staff with performance reviews and training
Working closely with families and caregivers to enhance communication and child development
Identifying and applying for grant funding opportunities to support Centre initiatives
Overseeing the use of fresh technology and facilities to create an innovative learning environment
Coordinating a seamless handover with the current Centre Director, ensuring comprehensive on-the-job training

About You
To be considered for this role, you must hold at least a Diploma in Early Education and Care, however a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) or equivalent qualification would be advantageous. A minimum of two years' experience in an Assistant Director or similar leadership role is required, along with at least five years of experience in early childhood education. Additionally, you must possess a valid Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) check and a current driver's licence.
As the ideal candidate, you will be a strong and proactive leader with the right qualifications and mindset to take full ownership of the Child and Family Centre's operations. Your strategic leadership skills will enable you to work "off the floor," overseeing the Centre's progress while delegating tasks efficiently to your team. You'll be responsible for managing the Centre effectively, particularly during its mid-phase development, ensuring smooth operations and ongoing success.
You will also demonstrate:


Strong leadership experience in managing childcare services and mentoring staff

Thorough knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), National Quality Framework (NQF), and relevant regulatory frameworks

Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, essential for managing relationships with families, staff, and external stakeholders

Ability to manage Centre operations, including budgets, financial reporting, and staff rosters

Grant writing experience (advantageous but not essential)

Additionally, you will demonstrate sound judgement when handling sensitive child issues, managing staff rosters, and ensuring compliance with all regulations.
Your professional, presentable demeanour, combined with your ability to foster strong relationships, will help build a cohesive team and a supportive environment for children and their families.
