Job DescriptionOverview: The Catering Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of catering services within the residential aged care facility. They are responsible for plating up and serving meals to residents in a well-presented manner, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety, and assisting in various kitchen tasks to support the chef and kitchen staff.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Plating up and serving well-presented meals to residents, ensuring adherence to portion sizes and dietary requirements.
2. Setting dining rooms with consistency in high standards to create an appealing dining experience for residents.
3. Handling all food in accordance with food safety guidelines, including proper storage, handling, and temperature control.
4. Following guidelines for the safe operation of equipment such as hot boxes, dishwashers, and trolleys.
5. Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness in serveries at all times, including regular cleaning and sanitization.
6. Documenting servery refrigerator temperatures daily to ensure food safety standards are met.
7. Taking directives from the chef and assisting in food preparation as needed, including chopping vegetables, preparing salads, etc.
8. Setting up buffet-style breakfast in the mornings, ensuring presentation and hygiene standards are maintained.
9. Performing dishwashing, cleaning, and restocking duties as required to maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.
10. Assisting in the cleaning and sanitization of the kitchen and floors at the end of the shift, ensuring all equipment is turned off and secured.
11. Adhering to all facility policies and procedures at all times, including those related to food safety, hygiene, and resident care.
Note: This position may involve evening shifts, and the responsibilities listed above may vary slightly depending on the specific needs of the facility
Desired Skills and Experience- High school diploma or equivalent advantageous
- Previous experience in food service or hospitality preferred
- Certification in food handling and safety (e.g., Food Handler's Certificate)
- Knowledge of HACCP principles
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively in a team environment
- Good communication skills and attention to detail
