About the Opportunity We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Catering Assistant with kitchen hand experience to join the team at our Brisbane Immigration Detention Centre (BIDC) site based at Pinkenba on a casual rotating roster across seven (7) days including weekends and public holidays, covering the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm and or 10:30am – 8:00pm. The successful candidate will report to the Catering Manager and will ensure the smooth and successful operation of the food service process, whilst complying with all food hygiene regulations. Good knife skills are essential as is the ability to perform general cleaning tasks. What you'll be doing Assist the head Chef with Catering OperationsMaintain an exceptionally high standard of food production service and food hygieneMaintain the preparation and work area in a clean and hygienic condition at all times and ensure thorough cleaning of these areas, including equipment after each serviceMaintain stock levels, replenish and clean areasManual handling tasks, including lifting, and transporting items, will be required in the kitchenEnsure compliance with Serco and DIBP/FDSP Codes of Conduct, policies and proceduresAbout you - your ideal skills & experience You have a positive attitude with a strong work ethic and good verbal and written communication skills. Your experience in following directions whilst working in a diverse fast paced environment allows you to be a good team player. You are confident in preparing and delivering food of high standard. Your dedication to nutritious food will enable you to provide well-presented food to detainees. The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviourMinimum Certificate II in Kitchen Operations (SIT20312) or equivalent qualificationBasic Food Hygiene / Food Safety Handling CertificateDemonstrated experience with basic kitchen processes and food preparationAbility to assist the Catering Manager and Chefs in preparation of the daily menuEnsure all tasks are performed in a timely manner and comply with internal policy and legislative requirementsUnderstanding of OHS legislation and management of hazardsYou do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position.
