Lihir Operation is a tier-one open cut mining operation based on Aniolam island, in the Lihir Group of Islands, located in New Ireland Province approximately 800km north of Port Moresby.
It is one of the world's largest producing gold mines and is located on a geothermally active extinct volcanic crater.
Production first commenced in 1997.
The operation consists of an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which is treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.
Job description: Purpose Reporting to the Senior Category Lead you will play a crucial role in supporting the Project Management Office for Lihir Operations.
You will provide technical expertise in the strategic procurement, delivery, and management of Minor Capital Projects for Lihir Operations.
Essential Duties Provide leadership, advice and guidance on issues relating to all aspects of Projects and Engineering Procurement Lead procurement activities including the development of relevant approach-to-market strategies and documentation Lead continuous improvement and drive purchasing behavioural change Provide commercial support and advice to the business in managing suppliers and contractual issues Work as an active team member across sourcing activities, projects or other contract portfolio accountabilities Identify local business opportunities and work with Social Performance team Build trusted relationships with key stakeholders to deliver required work outcomes Travel to Lihir as required, to provide on-site support and oversight for procurement Training & Experience Proven experience in procurement, specifically in engineering and capital projects within the mining or heavy industry sectors Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Business, Law, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline Substantial knowledge and expertise executing a range of procurement activities including but not limited to Category Management Understanding of legal and ethical procurement practices and compliance Significant experience with senior stakeholders and influencing commercial decisions and contractual negotiations Working knowledge and experience with SAP, Power BI, Ariba Strong Knowledge of low-cost country sourcing, and international trade regulations & logistics Skilled in reviewing and understanding contractual terms Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to lead and inspire a team Excellent attention to detail and time management skills Strong negotiation skills, with a track record of sourcing and contract management Strong active listening and interpersonal skills, supporting an ability to build and develop remote team relationships and resolve conflict Ability to work in a fast pace and environment managing multiple sourcing projects and meet project deadlines Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment Must be able to complete a National Police Check & Navex Risk Rate Screening Working Conditions Our Brisbane-based team enjoy flexible Monday to Friday work options to balance working from home and in the office.
