Overview: EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR CASUAL SESSIONALS WITHIN SYSTEMS ENGINEERING – SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING Expression of Interest for sessional teaching and marking across systems engineering courses in the School of Engineering, Department of Mechanical, Manufacturing & Mechatronics Engineering STEM College, RMIT.
Based at the Melbourne CBD campus but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University or online.
Casual hours commencing in 2025 We welcome expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to register their interest in preparing and delivering teaching and/or marking on a casual basis within the Department The Role The Casual Academic Sessional is expected to contribute to the teaching efforts of the school, within the Department of Mechanical, Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering.
You are responsible for carrying out various teaching and assessment activities within the Systems Engineering courses in the UG programs.
You will work collaboratively and collegially with fellow academics within the teaching team to achieve the desired student outcomes.
Key Accountabilities Undertake independent teaching and marking at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
Facilitate, support, and assess student learning to achieve and maintain competency.
Support the delivery of teaching, the best practice, student service and enhanced student outcomes.
Utilize a range of tools and techniques to develop student capability.
Comply with RMIT's policies including code of conduct, equity and diversity, and health and safety.
Keep abreast of any outstanding student requirements and required assessments over the semester.
Attend meetings as required.
Mentor students in a constructive and supportive learning environment.
Provide support to promote self-awareness, professional development, and growth of the student.
To be successful in this position, you'll have / you'll have as a minimum: Ability to apply and manage a systems engineering lifecycle development process to design, construct and commission complex engineering systems.
Familiar with model-based systems engineering tools commonly used in industry to design components and subsystems, and to integrate these parts in the system's architecture.
Minimum Masters or above (PhD).
Candidates with Bachelor qualifications who have extensive teaching and/or industry experience may be eligible for appointment.
These candidates must undergo Qualifications Equivalency assessment at RMIT to be eligible for this position.
Previous teaching and/or industry experience engineering systems or domains, or industrial and/or teaching experience within the framework of systems engineering.
Evidence of teaching ability and the capacity to engage students in an enthusiastic, concise, engaging, and informative manner.
Demonstrable knowledge of requisite content for courses taught within engineering programs.
Demonstrable ability to grade student assessment and provide appropriate feedback.
Effective interpersonal skills, including both written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrable ability to work effectively as part of a team.
The volume, nature and availability of sessional teaching will vary based on the needs of the school including course offerings, timetabling and student demand.
If successful, you will be included in a Talent Pool that will be reviewed across the year and may not guarantee hours.
