About This OpportunityFor a research project with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, we are investigating the use of major bus stations in Queensland and the access that they provide to work, shopping, and recreational activities.
The Casual Research Assistant will provide technical research support including a review of literature and primary data collection and analysis in support of all stages of the research project, under supervision of the Chief Investigator (Professor Mark Hickman).
Key responsibilities will include:
Literature Review and Economic Valuation: Review and synthesise academic and industry literature on bus station use and valuation, focusing on economic implications for major commercial developments.
Data Analysis and Experiment Design: Analyse property valuation data using economic and statistical methods; assist in designing research experiments targeting bus station users.
Survey and Data Processing: Collect data through online and local site-specific surveys in Southeast Queensland; clean, analyse, and interpret data to assess the quantitative and qualitative value of bus stations.
Safety: Contribute to the safe and efficient operation of research equipment, infrastructure, methodologies and protocols in field data collection.
Research Support and Administration: Assist with drafting research documentation (e.g., ethics and funding applications), conducting literature reviews, preparing reports and presentations, handling routine team administration, and performing other tasks as directed by the supervisor.
About YouFamiliarity with South-East Queensland's public transport network, as obtained through some combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Excellent practical research skills and experience in relevant research methodology or techniques required for this research.
An ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
An ability to work independently on routine procedures.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Well-organised, methodical and self-motivated.
Previous experience in a similar role would be considered favourably.
The successful candidate may be required to complete background checks including, right to work in Australia, criminal history and education checks.
