With an annual turnover of approximately $3.8 million, the Health Hub Optical business is the largest independent Optometry practice in Queensland. The Health Hub Optical team consists of experienced Dispensers and Optometrists providing the full suite of Optometry services, utilising the latest diagnostic technology to assist patients with appropriate clinical interventions and advice to address their eye care needs. The Health Hub Optical Business has access to the latest technologies in frame and lens designs, giving patients an extensive range of frames, sunglasses, and lenses to choose from.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Reporting directly to the Optical Manager, the Optometrist is responsible for the clinical assessment, diagnosis, and prescription of topical agents and/or lenses for patient eye disorders. This position is part of the Optical team and requires a pro-active and inspiring Optometrist with strong patient focus, exceptional clinical expertise, and strong communication skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Document patient clinical history including relevant symptoms, ocular health, medication usage, medical and family history, current vision aids if applicable, and any other pertinent data.Examine eyes using observation, pharmaceutical agents, and instruments to determine visual perception, acuity, coordination, and focus.Based on thorough ocular examination and advanced clinical reasoning, diagnose diseases and anomalies.Prescribe, fit, and teach (where appropriate) vision aids such as contact lenses and eyeglasses.Promote eye health by educating and informing patients.Answer questions and provide advice and solutions to patients and co-workers regarding complex cases and other vision or optical issues.Clearly record diagnosis and treatment plan, including referrals, therapeutic prescriptions, and long-term medical management in accordance with professional standards.Ensure follow-up appointments are made.Deliver outstanding customer service through all patient interactions.Ensure Medicare billing is accurate and complete.Participate in team meetings and personal development to improve overall practice outcomes.Work closely with the Optical Business Manager to ensure alignment in clinical approaches and outcomes.Other administrative or operational tasks as directed, including but not limited to the act of selling spectacles and other eye-care products, management of retail-focused finances, and organising patient appointments as required.KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Optical Team, Optical Business Manager, Health Hub Team.
External: Patients, Suppliers, other medical businesses, business partners.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to be flexible and available to work the full span of operating hours and additional hours of work as required. Some travel may be required to attend meetings and industry work groups/seminars.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES
Qualifications: A recognised tertiary qualification in Optometry.Current and unencumbered registration with Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with therapeutic endorsement to prescribe for the purposes of the practice of optometry.Current Professional Indemnity Insurance.High level computer proficiency with Optomate, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook skills. Typical Experience:
Minimum 5 years' experience as an Optometrist ideally working with an aged demographic and complex eye conditions. Self-directed to deliver high quality clinical care and enhance optical business outcomes.
Capabilities: Demonstrated ability to conduct optical testing, analysis, and diagnosis.Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality patient and clinical care including well-developed diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills in patient treatment options with the ability to refer patients to other medical specialists as required.Demonstrated ability to drive clinic outcomes.Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. Strong initiative, flexibility, and problem-solving skills, with a solutions-focus and ability to analyse complex issues and achieve effective high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.Maintain own Continuing and Professional Development.Strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters in an appropriate manner.Ability to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of policies, procedures and trends relating to the provision of Optometry services including medico-legal responsibilities, ethical practice, and relevant standards.Demonstrated ability to acquire a sound knowledge of information technology applications and systems, including electronic patient records used by TUH is highly desirable.
