Location ProfileTarneit Senior College is located in a developing area of Wyndham, approximately 25 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD. We are located next to one of our main feeder schools - Tarneit P-9 College while also accepting enrolments from a number of other primary and P-9 schools including Baden Powell College and Truganina P-9 College. Significant enrolment also comes from new families moving into Tarneit with Wyndham being one of the top growth corridors in Australia. The college is experiencing a period of sustained growth for both the suburb and school over the next 5 to 10 years. In 2024 we have approximately 1050 students enrolled, and the projected enrolments is for the school to stabilise around this number in the next few years.
As a Senior College catering for Years 10, 11 & 12 we are able to offer comprehensive curriculum, pathways, and transition programs to cater for the academic and vocational needs of students. The college offers a wide range of VCE and VET programs including Vocational Major and Victorian Pathways Certificate. There is emphasis on the social, emotional, cultural, and academic needs of our students in order to develop their full potential. Through a caring and safe 'House' structure; individual students are encouraged to think, reflect, and develop into successful learners so that they can take their place in society as informed, responsible, and active members of the community of Tarneit and beyond.

We have a continual focus on improving Yr12 ATAR results. This approach focuses upon improving teaching & learning delivery and the use of data to understand then improve our work.

In 2025 the College staffing profile will consist of a College Principal, 8 Assistant Principals, 7 Leading Teachers, 4 Learning Specialists, 70 EFT Teaching Staff, Business Manager, and 30 EFT Education Support Staff.
Selection CriteriaDemonstrated passion, commitment, knowledge and skills that supports highly effective course/careers counselling and related careers program.Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills; a capacity to develop constructive relationships with students, parents, employers, agencies and other staff.High level capacity to perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice and school / DET Policy and the personal attributes required to do this work with limited supervision and guidance.Demonstrate high level administrative, organizational and resource management skills and proficiency in using office systems and relevant software.Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a team as well as being able to provide ongoing support and guidance to staff and students.Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the National Career Education Strategy (including Career Portfolios and Morrisby) and the ability to support students with VTAC applications.RoleThe Careers Practitioner helps prepare students for the world of work and links career and subject choice to independent learning. The Careers Practitioner supports students about careers of the future, and provides information and resources to assist them to plan their future vocational direction and opportunities in post school life.
The Careers Practitioner has specific responsibilities in relation to the development and implementation of programs related to the various options available to students as they contemplate post compulsory secondary school and post-school options, within the College, through the leadership of the Leading Teachers - Careers & Pathways.
The Careers Practitioner has a comprehensive understanding of the tertiary system, both in Australia and overseas, with a strong technical understanding of the ATAR and tertiary entrance requirements.
The Career Practitioner is responsible to the Principal through the Assistant Principal for Support in Learning & the Careers & Pathways Leader.
ResponsibilitiesCourse counselling for students across yrs10-12, including one to one counselling services for students, parents and the wider community.Support students with all aspects of tertiary application processes and course selection, as well as on pathways to apprenticeships and employment.Liaise with and provide information to parents, staff and students about school administration procedures and policy.Provide support in the implementation of Careers Education Framework.Coordinate the distribution of school newsletters, circulars and other documentation to be provided to the school community as they relate to the Careers & Pathways Team.Liaise with service providers, welfare agencies and relevant organisations to facilitate student referral.Use a case management approach to provide for the career development needs of students with disabilities (liaising with the Inclusive Education Specialist) and CALD students.Student support in pathways related areas such as Work Experience placements and careers expo.Work with the Careers & Pathways Team to support Feeder schools with subject selections and course counselling.Work with Careers & Pathways Team to implement and manage the Careers Action Plans.Support the Careers & Pathways Team with Coordinating information rollout, counselling for selection of VTAC and other study options, provide a counselling service at Change of Preference time for VTAC and special Entry and Access Schemes.Maintain and make available all records regarding student pathways.Must have adequate Qualifications around Student course counselling and CAPs or extensive experience.General administration support as required.Use of Compass to support student pathways.Supporting college staff in achieving due dates and other required duties.Other duties as negotiated with the Principal.Essential Requirements of the RoleApplicants must hold a Graduate Diploma or Certificate IV in Careers Education.Applicants must hold an employment Working With Children's Card.High organisation and time management skills.Familiarity with VTAC application processes.Knowledge and understanding of the National Career Education Strategy (including Career Portfolios and Morrisby).High Interpersonal Skills.Capacity to work as a member of team.Ability to support students from a range of backgrounds.Comply with the Child Safe Standards.Comply with OH&S requirements and maintain a safe and healthy workplace for self and others.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
