Your role will be crucial in delivering on the priorities outlined within the 2024 National Defence Strategy and 2024 Integrated Investment Program.
As part of the team, you will work closely with capability managers, the ADF, and the Australian Embassy in the United States.
As part of your role, you can expect to:
Navigate international export control issues and provide client areas with tailored advice under limited direction.Support IEC's projects within the advice, business improvement, compliance, or outreach functions (depending on aptitude and interest, in consultation with your supervisor).Actively build and develop working-level relationships to support international export control compliance across Defence.Specialise in certain US export control topics, such as in licencing, workforce issues or the AUKUS licence-free environment.Support the team by identifying innovative solutions to meet emergent business requirements.The successful candidate will be required to undertake work on and be provided with technical information pertaining to Defence articles of United States of America (US) origin.
In accordance with the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), any applicant who holds, or has previously held, citizenship or permanent residency of a country other than Australia will be required to declare and indicate the country or countries of citizenship or permanent residency.
Restrictions on access to Defence articles and associated technical data subject to the ITAR by dual national employees may apply.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP).
This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability.

About our Team
The APS 5 Capability Analyst position sits within the International Export Controls (IEC) team, with a blended workforce consisting of APS, reservists and contractors.
IEC provides Defence with advice on complying with its international export control obligations.
The work is varied and complex, with international export control compliance supporting supply chain integration and ensuring the ADF maintains privileged access to controlled technology.
In particular, IEC provides specialist assistance to the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) and the wider Defence community in the application of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, the Export Administration Regulations and the controls associated with Foreign Military Sales acquired technology.
IEC sits within the Strategy, Policy and Industry Group, which is focused on strengthening Australia's national security and economic resilience through international engagement; enhancing ADF capability and decisions; regulating military and dual-use exports in the national interest; and helping build a sovereign industrial base.
